I have had no problems with this truck to-date.
The Sorento is a contender in the SUV market.
Solid build quality.
Excellent warranty.
Sorento offers many standard feature on the base LX model.
Kia has done a great job with the Sorento. I see no reason why Kia cannot become the next HONDA in the U.S. automobile market.
I just bought a brand new Sorento 05 and it has been a nightmare. I think it is important for people to know that it has two defective parts. One being the Canister Close Valve, this causes the check engine light to stay on. Also, the clocks do not keep time. I was very disappointed not only with the fact that I have to drive for up to six weeks (because the parts to fix these problems are on national back order) with a check engine light on. They are trying to tell me this is safe, but I am willing to bet that none of them would drive like that. I have had a horrible experience and I don't recommend it to anyone.
To the person that owns the 05 sorrento. If the check engine light is on and not flashing it is a minor emissions problem. Only if the check engine light starts to flash do you have to take it off the road, because serious damage can happen to the vehicle.
March 24th post. This guy must work for Kia. Who wants to ride with a check engine light on? I have to bring mine in for the same problem. We'll see how well that 10-100 works. I'm sure it's something I did, and will cost me.
I had a Chevrolet with a check engine light that wouldn't go away. After taking if to several shops and not finding one who could fix the problem and make the light shut off, I found a lose connection to a wire near the brake pedal. After connecting it, the check engine light went off. I wasted so much money trying to have someone find the problem and ended up fixing it myself for nothing. The check engine light does not always mean there is something wrong with the engine.
To the person with check engine light on, you are lucky it is still covered under warranty.
We own a 2005 KIA Sorento with 25000 miles and have been to the dealer at least 4 times for warranty related items.
1 item in particular is the brake rotors becoming dipped or worn uneven at 9000 miles. KIA turned the rotors and told me that the warranty runs out at 12000 miles on wearable items such as brakes, tires, shocks etc.
I told the dealer that this is ridiculous for this to happen @ 9000 miles and the problem would come back again.
They assured me that if the problem did return they would take care of this.
Guess what, at 25000 miles the brake rotors are worn uneven again and yesterday they told me this is not covered by warranty and if I had been bringing my vehicle to them to service such as oil changes and other they would likely put new rotors on for me. I called KIA customer service @ 1-800-333-4542 and filed a complaint, which has to be reviewed and then they will decide if I am entitled to any corrective actions for this problem.
A rattle has shown up in the right rear and the transmission has a problem shifting up from 2nd to 3rd at different times and they are not sure what causes this.
I would not advise anyone to purchase a KIA vehicle.
I have had the same problem with the front brake rotors on the Kia Sorento I did a front brake job and turned the rotors myself in my shop. After a couple months they started to pulsate again. I took.02 off at the time. It's now down to the legal limit.
Continue of the brake problem @ 25000 miles.
Its been about 20 days, I have taken my Sorento in for the repair of the tranny shift problem and have heard nothing back from the customer service hotline about my brakes, the regional service manager will not answer my phone calls and doesn't return my phone calls when I leave messages.
The service manager at the dealership told me today that he heard from him that there is nothing they can do.
I am considering a contacting Better Business Bureau and a lawyer.
If you read your owners Manual under the warranty guide, theres a section there that stated if the dealer cannot fix the same problem over and over, it qualifies for a replacement for a new vehicle under the lemon law. I believe they also would have to refund all the cost and agreement.
The lemon law only applies to vehicle within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, which ever comes first.
Has anyone had problems with headlights going out?
I have replaced the bulbs in my headlights twice on the right and 3 times now on the left.
Also apparently Sorento rotors are hard to find???
There are 2 KIA dealers in Nashville, TN neither of which have them in stock.
I own a 2003 Kia Sorento with 40K miles. At 15K miles I had to have the engine replaced because the block just cracked. The dealer sent the old block to some tech center to be tested before they would honor the warranty. Fortunately they did. I have turned the rotors 3 times already. Warranty would not honor these because they are "wearable" items. 3 times in 40K miles is beyond "normal wear and tear". At 37K miles, I had it in for routine maintenance and asked them to look at the paint because it was flaking. They cannot warranty the paint because the warranty on the paint ran out at 36K miles.
The service manager told me they had a lot of problems with paint and said to call the regional office. Which I did when I got home to find out the service manager called the regional office after I left to tell them the problem with the paint looked like sun fade. Needless to say my paint was not fixed. I would highly recommend against a Kia vehicle for anyone.
Headlight problem? Windshield problem? Yes, I love my 2003 Sorento, but I'm tired of replacing the headlight bulbs every six months and still have poor visibility when it rains due to the windshield film that must be between the glass, because no amount of wiping or adjusting the vents helps to clear it up. And I've had the windshield replaced once already.
Yes to the Headlight problems. I have replaced the right low beam light 4 times and the left low beam light 3 times. I have also replaced the left brake light 2 times. Once I was coming home late at night and both low beam lights went out at the same time.
I purchased a 2005 Sorento in late 04, the reasons I have taken the vehicle back for warranty include interior lights not working all the time, brake lights going out on numerous occasions and some sloppy interior work from the dealership that I need to re-address on my next visit. Overall my Sorento has performed up to my expectations, I have 41,000 miles and need front brakes which I will install myself. The only real item KIA needs to work on is the gas mileage, for a vehicle this small 15 MPG under normal driving conditions in Texas is just wrong!!!
Our 2003 Kia Sorrento has had to have both headlamps replaced 3 times each in the last 3 months. Contacted the headlamp company and they sent us 2 replacements (thinking it was defective lamps) but the dealer refuses to acknowledge this is an issue with the electrical. Our vehicle has 80k miles on it and since day one we have experienced a clunk (technical term lol) when accelerating from a stop - anyone experience this issue?
