"Performance at a good price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My first drive in it the motor overheated.

The rear disk brakes locked on wearing out two sets of pads in 2 months.

Constant velocity joint poped out, which meant the car could not move at all.

The water pump was replaced at 200,000kms, it was the main cause of overheating.

The welsh plugs were replaced at 210,000kms.

Currently the power steering is about to die and the front shocks are gone.

General comments?

I only bought this car for $2400 to drive to work everyday, but I changed to a job where I have to drive 900kms a week which I don't think it can handle.

The motor in it is very responsive and goes when you tell it too. It can beat any standard Excel or lancer. Though the handling is not the best and with the worn out front shocks the engine sump scrapes on the ground when you do a hard left.

I would very much recommend to buyers if you want a pulsar get the one with the 1.8 lt motor if they want performance just have it serviced regularly.

Well I don't mind your review, mind that I have the same model of the Nissan you have (pulsar vector 1.8 GXE, if it is that).

Well I got mine for 2000 and she goes like a beauty. Except from the fact that it has been baby-ed around by a old man for 15 years and has carbon some parts of the engine. Therefore it is in pretty good condition. Me and my dad gave it a good old polishing and looks pretty slick.

I've got some new springs and shock absorbers so it can handle better on the road, (I'm not really a car expert so if I don't say things the correct way then don't worry bout it). Its handling is a little dodgy, but yeah I agree how its really responsive.

Oh and I might be putting a 2.0Ltr sr20 motor in it from a late model SSS so that will make it go off :D.

But anyway I reckon that if you bought it new and not second hand you would have a better review of it. Maybe it was just how the previous owner treated it. Who knows?

Hey, I have a 1987 N13 Pulsar Q which has the 1.8 in it. I agree with you as well on the responsive part, especially in 3rd or 4th gear, she just picks up and goes. I recently did the gearbox in the car and I have noticed that the car is always very hot after being run round for half an hour or so, I've noticed that the thermofan rarely even turns on to cool the car down, and that my ECU light comes on sometimes as well. I have not had one breakdown (besides the gearbox) to date and I've had the car for over a year. The driver seat in the car is oh so comfortable and I enjoy driving my nice pulsar. I always bottom out in that car, and its very low when fully laiden. My exhaust is squashed and my sump is dinted because of this. I'm thinking of putting a new exhuast and a pod filter on it soon and see what happens, hopefully ill have myself I nice smick pulsar that I can show off :)

I have the same car, but mine is a 1990 model. I bought mine for about $800.00 AUD and have spent $500 on it for servicing and parts. I have recently put a pod filter on the engine, and man you guys should see the difference it makes. Apart from the performance, I got the car in a pretty good condition because my mate has looked after it well enough to last this long.

The ECU lights and stuff, I think you might want to check the Alternator as it might be shorting itself out. As for the Radiator Fan it could be the heat sensor or the thermostat located next to the Timing Belt. Hopefully that helps.

Anyway I'm getting it ported and polished, hopefully it gives me a little bit more power as I'm allowing more air to get in the engine.

I just recently purchased an N13 vector, but only realised after I brought it that the instrument cluster does not work properly my odometer turns on n off and my fuel gauge never gives me an accurate reading. I only paid 1800 for it. but would any of you guys know where I could find a new cluster as they stopped selling them from Nissan 2 years ago.

I'm trying to find some information, more specifically on a certain pulsar, I'm going to list the things done to it and what ever I know is what I've gathered. Every things fairly accurate, but I'm looking for exactly how many kilowatts this baby puts out so help me out.

I brought a Nissan pulsar vector 1.8 ltr efi sss lsd vicious series 2 for $650 with only 93000 on its clock been sheded all its life. I find that it is really responsive through 3-4-5 but when you push it l found that the fuel pump sh!#s its self and had to nurse it for around 3 days jerkin coughing and splattering then the fuel pump started to work properly again

I’ve got a pod on it I can tell you that it sounds wicked when you open it up. I’ve got a 21/2 inch egsaused going on it with a sports muffler a big shiny one that's going on it. I can’t wait to hear when its done.

Hi with the instrument cluster on the n13 pulsar vector there is a small chip in the back that may have burnt out, so you may have to find a working 2nd hand one or know an electrition.

With the overheating try changing the thermostat if possible as the original only turns on at about 90-100 Degrees!!

Hopes this helps had same problem with cluster had to buy from Adelaide.

Hey guys I had the same problem with the ECU light turning on all the time. I bought the car fro $2500 and the only problem I have had is with the head gasket that blew. but that was only $35 to fix. To fix the ECU light all I had to do was reconnect to O2 sensor as it had shaken lose. if you don't know where this is it's a small cable only bout 3mm thick that runs near the oil dipstick. there should be a clip there that just needs pushing in.

I own a 88 1.8 liter Pulsar Vector and it's a piece of crap when handled in the rain. I don't know why?

My engine needs to be worked and my suspension strutted with springs and shocks.

I think it has potential to be worked to beat Skylines as any car would with a crazy driver, and with the right motor work, and fuel lines and pistons to handle octane fuel, I think it would make an improvement without a turbo, and munch on most things on the road...

I own a 1988 N13, its now my second car and am replacing a lot of parts on it. As for the dash take it out, very easy just 2 plugs along with about 4 screws and take it to an auto elec, they can fix all the soldering, lights etc.

ECM light always on, this was easily fixed with a new oxegen sensor from holden $95.

The suspension I'm re-building using nolathane bushes all round. I got the front and rear vehicle enhancement kit from Nolathane and this cost $270.

Rear struts I bought new off ebay for $99 for the pair.

Front struts I bought new from autobarn at $120 each.

Re-using old springs and have degreased and washed all sway bars, bolts nuts etc. This is a fantastic way to improve handling from your n13.

I have a 90 model Nissan Pulsar Q (N13).

I need some feedback as to how I can fix her. The motor turns over, but won't start. I have tried changing the spark plugs, leads, coil and the Distributor cap. What next?

The wiring connector on the back of the instrument cluster overheats on these models. My local wrecker has heaps of N13s and charged me $10 for the circuit board. Also the ECU computers overheat and this stops the thermo fans from working. I got exchange computer from Nissan for $165. Hope this helps.

I had a problem with my pulsar not long ago, I was not getting any spark nor was I getting fuel.

The fix for my problem was the black control module that is mounted inside of the distributor and also the pick-up coil that is in there as well.

Hope this fixes your problem.

I just brought My SVD pulsar and the car has been leaking oil quite profusely from the cam cover and oil cap other than that she hasn't had a problem and I've been quite happy with it and only seem to find getting parts hard to do.
