Two problems to date first the right front wheel bearing blew at 30000 miles.. warranty picked it up. second problem the oil light was coming on at idle, took it to the dealer and they told me it was the oil pump. luckily I purchased the extended warranty as I'm good on it till 75000mi..presently I have 62000miles on it now. oil light not coming on anymore. without the warranty it would have cost me 1200.00 bucks, but only shelled out the hundred dollar deductible. PHEW!!!
After reading the horror stories people are having from the 2.7 liter motors I wonder how much longer I have with this one. I love the cars look and ride and was hoping to keep it a few more years, but after the warranty runs out I'm debating on weather to keep it or not.. I mean lets face it.. at this day and age a well maintained motor should last around 200,000 miles...RIGHT!!!DODGE???
I purchased a 1999 intrepid in Jan. 2000. I too bought it because it was roomy, reasonable and looked good. I have had problems with the windows not working. Presently I do not use the driver's window because though it will let up and down there is a 1/8 inch gap left where it is off track. My interior lights would flicker on and off. That suddenly stopped by itself. My oil light would come on at a stoplight. That too suddenly stopped. It is smoking when I take off. The headlamps are so cloudy it looks as if they have been on there 10 or 15 years. I have replaced both cooling fans and motor. I have replaced the speed sensors three times. Presently, the problem I am having is going down the interstate the car suddenly loses power and I have to try to get to the right side to pull off. It first shakes a little and jerks then dies. After sitting for anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 the car starts up. I have had the fuel injectors cleaned out twice and had it tuned up twice. And yes, the oil is changed every 3000 to 3500 miles without fail. Oh and now the battery cables are corroded and even after cleaning and servicing the battery it apparently has died too. Maybe that is normal wear and tear for a six year old battery. I guess after reading all the comments I should consider myself lucky. The car has 125,000 miles on it and I owe only ONE more payment, Jan. 16, 2005 and I made it! So before the engine locks up I will pawn this piece of crap off on some dealer and purchase what I started to in 2000, a Toyota 4 runner. Good luck to all intrepid owners and hopefully we can be compensated for the frustration, missed days of work, missed appointments, missed kids football, soccer or softball games, time spent waiting beside a busy interstate for a tow truck, etc and of course all the money that has been pumped into this sham of a car.
