"Stick with Nissan, Toyota or Honda"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The same month my warranty was up I developed a foul odor from the air conditioning system. Being a woman, I had no idea what the problem was and hoped it would disappear. Finally, when I took it for an oil change, I asked the mechanic and he told me that it was probably caused by mold, and that Chrysler has a kit to deodorize it. $90 later I still had the odor. I brought it back to the dealer and he deodorized it again. A week later I hear hissing and watched the freon escape into the car. I brought it back again and paid $70 to recharge the freon. I was told to drive around (in the winter) with the a/c on for 150 miles and bring it back. I did so and was told today that it's the evaporator and will cost approximately $800 to fix. The car is 3 1/2 years old, has 23,000 miles and is garaged everyday. It's used once or twice a week and on long drives.

General comments?

The car is really beautiful, comfortable and has outrageously huge trunk room.

But, I'll never buy another Chrysler again.

I feel the same way. I am going through that right now. I just paid $142 for freon and come to find out that I need a evaporator. They told me that it will cost me $1200 to fix. I have always loved my Chryslers, but everyone I've had, I've had problems with. I had a new Chrysler that I drove out of the showcase and had three transmissions on it after not having it for six months. Then I was coming back from vacation in a Chrysler van and the transmission went out on that and I was stuck in VA and had to pay over $500 to tow it back. Now, I've had the Chrysler that I have now for a year and before that year was up, I had to have a new engine put in it, among all the other problems. I will never buy another Chrysler and I'm hoping to get out of this one real soon. I have put over $1000 in it within a year. Chrysler needs to read these comments and compensate people for the cars they sell. They are beautiful, but in my opinion, they are lemons. I really wanted to get their new van, but I'm scared.

I can't understand why the A/C is the one and only concern for many degrading ANY car. It is usually a luxury option on a car and should be considered separate from a base vehicles reliability. It does not distrupt the overall workings of the vehicle for the main function it is for as transportation and does not hinder its safety or performance. In some climates an A/C is barely used and are little more than a frivolous conveyance most could do without as they all require a lot of attention and expense on ANY car. Ironically, its often due by lack of use that A/C prematurely fail so it is best to occasionly operate them even in the winter to keep them in shape.
