Nothing. Despite a good deal of off-roading, and "hard" driving, this truck has remained as tight and smooth as the day I bought it. The interior and exterior have held up very well, and the drive train has had no issues.
Although expensive, and a gas-guzzler, this is absolutely the most impressive vehicle I have ever owned. It handles both highway and off-road driving. It's powerful, yet refined.
Yeah, 6.0L V8, Might as well put a damn gas station in the back of it. You'll need it. There is a point where an SUV is TOO BIG! Besides, It's not a real Hummer. A REAL hummer is one like the army uses, an H1.
That, in itself, was the problem. The H1 lacks the appeal to city dwellers. I mean, that's basically missing all of the city market, since H1's are horrible on pavement. GM actually recognized that and built the H2 in a way that that can handle pavement just fine.
Refined? You keep telling yourself that buddy...
I agree,the H2 isn't a real hummer.
Hummers are cardboard boxes trying to imtate H1's.
Yes I must agree with everyone that H2s are not real hummers... the real one's are the H1s. The H1 is a recreational vehicle and its originality is greatly praised. It's meant to be fun; off-roading, 4-wheeling, etc. The H1s and H2s are not commuter vehicles, and should not be used as such. I agree that there does come a point when an SUV is just too big...I've lost friends to the excursions, expeditions and such. The H2 just about measures up to the size of one of those, I'd hate to see another life destroyed. I would have to also agree that the H2 is a poor imitation of such an awesome recreational vehicle! America's losing it's sense of what's original--can't come up with any new ideas, so they must imitate the old ones... how sad. But really, the H2?? Ugh and boo.
Guys...relax a little bit already. And then get your facts straight! The H2 is a Hummer (that is the brand) and if you read the professional reviews of this vehicle, they all agree it's off road prowess is second only to the H1. The H1 is just a difficult vehicle to live with everyday. The H2 has been designed to be more livable in almost every area at about 1/2 the price.
But just like a Jeep liberty is an everyday vehicle with excellent off road ability... and is still a jeep, but it is not a wrangler... so too is the H2 a hummer. No it is not the spartan military version... thank goodness, those would not be easy to live with and cost as much as a house in some parts of the country. But it does compete with other large SUV's, off roads better, and it is selling well. Therefore people must like the darn thing.
Yes the gas mileage is not good, but most of the people that drive them realize that real quick and drive them less than a normal vehicle or else they can afford to pay for the gas to feed them. So I say, if someone wants a solid vehicle built in America by Americans that is very safe to those occupying it, and they can afford 10 mpg at 2 bucks a gallon, I for one can't see that same 50K going overseas to enrich someone else's population.
To the person that wants to spit on them when he sees them... I WOULD NOT recommend that in this day and age. He would probably end up in the hospital or worse!
I think many people who hate H2s just hate their rich owners - because they themselves couldn't afford to buy and maintain H2s. With that said, nonetheless, I think ownership of an H2 shows bad taste and wastefulness. First, its disputable whether H2s are real hummers - they are far from H1s being built on Chevy Suburban platform and MUCH LESS sturdy than H1. OK - it is still very decent off-roading vehicle, BUT it's DEFINITELY NOT the bes SUV off-roader. Both Mercedes G-class and Range Rover will leave this ugly (matter of opinion) bullfrog behind them. And in some situations, even the Volkswagen Touareg is better. It is only fair to note that both Gs and RRs cost considerably more than H2 - they are after all higher class vehicles, not only considering offroading, but also built quality and interior refinement as well. I know that for americans it's hard to swallow, but that are the facts. Another thing is that most H2 owners NEVER take their cars off road and bought them solely for their road presence, to manifest their wealth and ability to drive vehicle with extremely high gas consumption. Yes, H2 is bigger and has bigger wheels than Gs and RRs and most people don't even know how these cars really rank, so in that matter, truth is not important, important is the image. The conclusion? Those of you that are considering a purchase of an H2 and are able to spend another $25 000 atop of its price, think about the benz or rover - if you buy it, you will show that not only your wallet isn't empty, but the same can be said about your mind as well.
It is unfortunate so many posts are from those not even owning a Hummer.
I am buying one. I like that it is big. I need big, safe, and able, as I am moving to a mountain community that has snow and ice and dirt roads. This is exactly the vehicle I am looking for and am certain it will outperform many other SUV's. Do not even mention the Mercedes, the Lexus, and other pretty girly SUV's out there. They are jokes.
If you want a serious, capable SUV... this fits the bill.
The only other SUV I would consider is the Jeep Liberty. However... I like the size of the Hummer. So does my family (they feel safer driving in it).
I hope that those who see me driving on the road will not think I am a rich a hole. I am not. I am just someone who needs a vehicle like this. If I could afford the H1, and if my family could sit closer (did not feel like they were being inserted into a military mission via an armored vehicle), I would go that route.
I don't care about looks. In fact I may go for a nice primer paint job once I take delivery.
I actually own an H2 and it is an awesome vehicle. It is very unusual and has a few drawbacks, but who cares! It is not a H1 but it is a Hummer just like the H3 and possibly the H4 will be. It gets the same mileage as other large popular SUV's and can outperform almost anything off road. It is a specialty vehicle that most people don't appreciate. If you are looking for practicality look elsewhere, but if you have to ask why I drive an H2, you will never understand. GM has made the H2 a unique vehicle that combines luxury and ruggedness at a price that an average guy can afford.
I'd put money on the fact it could not out perform my Jeep.
Interesting comment:
"GM has made the H2 a unique vehicle that combines luxury and ruggedness at a price that an average guy can afford."
Oh it's unique alright. Sure it has some luxury. But at a price that an average guy can afford??? Since when did the average guy have $60,000 to piss away?
I'm from ireland where I've only ever seen one hummer. I think it was the H1 ye are on about. it had some amazing road presence to say the least. at a roundabout, all the traffic stopped when this thing came onto it. I think it has a 6.25 litre turbo diesel engine in it??? that's a guess. I would take the fall by saying he owns it for show, most 4x4's never see a bit of mud, so why buy one? road tests show you are bomb proof in an accident. I must mention that it didn't look nice... just big.
A hummer is hardly refined in any sense of the word.
Oh, and just because you can afford to run one of the most wasteful vehicles there is doesn't mean you should. A normal sized car with an efficient engine would serve you just as well without the need to give mother nature a punch in the face.
I live in the uk and am thinking of purchasing a hummer h2, would like to add I have owned several rang rovers the last being a 4.6hse and would never buy another one, the reliability issues are just to expensive, new engine, gearbox, airconditioning, suspension the list just goes on and on.
Currently own a dodge 3500 dually 4x4 and can't wait to purchase another american vehicle, it will be a hummer h2, you guys really do know how to build vehicles over there!
Will be proud to drive something a bit different, you can keep your expensive unreliable range rovers thanks!
I own a 4x4 Fiat panda 1991 model, I've driven all round europe in it and get about 50mpg. I can take 3 passengers + me and have driven through ice, snow, off road fields etc etc, I paid £800 for it 6 years ago and have no intention of selling it, it even has a 12 disc CD changer in it and can get 95 mph out of it. so for £50k for a hummer H2 I could buy uhm lets see a fiat panda 4x4 and run it for uhm lets see 50 years?
