Replaced 4 fuel modules
replaced 2 engines
replaced computer once
air bag light has not turned off since 2 weeks after I bought the car
Suspension went out at 36,789 miles.
For the past three years that I have had this car, I have had nothing, but problems. I have had 2 engines replaced, 4 fuel modules, a new computer, and to date my air bag light still greets me every morning (meaning it never worked). I can't believe that a manufacturer would even be allowed to sell a product like this. I feel as if I am between a rock and a hard place because after driving the car off the lot and after 6,000 miles 1 engine and 2 fuel modules the car was not worth 1/2 of what I owed on it. If you lift the hood and look at the inside of the hood you would know what I am talking about. My car is black, but the inside of the hood is covered with white stickers showing all the parts replaced on my car. You would think that there is nothing left to replace, but right after the warranty was up (@36,789 miles) the suspension broke. Yes, that same part that I had been being charged $160 for saying I just need a wheel alignment for the past 5 months. But of course now I am out of warranty, I owe $12,000 on the car and it is worth $4,000, and now I have to get a new suspension.
I can understand how frustrated you are with this Taurus.
I too, am a Taurus owner, but never again!!! A vehicle with less than 25,ooo miles and it's done it all----bad tires, actual rust hole, broken front spring, engine miss etc... And then Ford motor co. puts that sticker in the window "BILT WITH PRIDE".
We have a 2000 V6 3.0L Flex Fuel SES Taurus that we got new and it now has 39,000-miles of no problems. We paid too much for it, but we like it. My brother said that now that our 3/36K warranty is up everything will break. We will see, but I don't think it will. I will post if it does.
I understand all of you.
I am also Taurus owner. I have 1996 GL model.
This car is great in handling and ride, full of superior options. For the price I paid for it seemed like a good bargain.
However, reliability of this car is nearly 0.
I have spent considerable funds to fix tires, multiple things inside the hood and recently had to rebuild transmission.
I will be using this car only few times as its price dropped so fast that it is not worth selling.
Ford has to try to compete to Japanese automakers such as Honda, Toyota and Nissan and try to reach their reliability records.
1996 Ford Taurus GL with 166667 miles on it, and still going. The only thing I really replaced was the starter and brake lines... nothing more... love this car...
Take care of it and won't let you down.
