1996 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe from North America - Comments

"A Practical Performance Car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Had to replace hatch struts at 60,000 miles.

Had to replace factory CD player at 59,000 miles.

Had muffler replaced under warranty at 31,000 miles.

General comments?

The 3800 V6 has great performance, and is an overlooked gem.

I've gotten 31 miles per gallon on the interstate with the air conditioning running.

My car has the performance handling package, so all it lacks from the Z28 is the 350 engine and the high insurance rates.

It does have a lot of rattles inside and out.

I'd like to how a V-6 Camaro runs against a V-6 Cougar.

Yeah, the Cougar would get creamed. I would like to see the V6 Camaro go against a 1995 V6 Mustang. The Stang does have fewer horsepower and torque, but it is a lot lighter.

Has anyone raced a 1996 Camaro RS (automatic) and know how fast it can do the 1/4 mile? Also what kind of (fast) cars it can beat? I was just curious, as I don't really plan on racing it, I just want to know for bragging rights, lol. I just got it and it is still snowy here in WI so I can't go very fast as its not good in snow, although the 2nd gear upgrade for the 96' helps some. Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.

I LOVE MY CAMARO!! Fast car with great sound!! And T-Tops!!

WEll I have a 1996 camaro RS/Y87/F1 package 5-speed stock ran 14.2 The 3.8 makes a lot of torque I recommend getting a turbo from force-fed-fabrications.com If you are going to beef it up.

A V6 camaro would not beat a 4.6 stang.

Hey I just wanted to update the last comment I have a 1996 v6 5-speed and I did beat a 1997 gt it was fairly close, but I did beat him we raced down the a street that is exactly 1/4 mile. And yes his was a 5-speed as well so a v6 camaro can outrun a 4.6l v8 the 3800 is a very powerful motor and most people do not think so, but it is very good motor.
