"It is a good car for the money spent."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had this car for approximately 1 month, and have not had any problems with this car yet.

General comments?

Although the car is very sporty looking on the exterior, the interior is not very sporty. While you are driving it you feel like you are driving a tiny 4-door sedan instead of a sporty coupe.

The driver seat is very uncomfortable.

The distance to the clutch pedal is not comparable to the gas & brake pedal. Either you are too far away from the clutch or too close to the gas & brake. I am starting to get used to this, but my legs were very sore the first couple of weeks.

It is not easy getting in and out of the driver side of the vehicle.

It has some nice pick up speed when you need it.

The trunk needs to be slammed shut 3 or 4 times before the lock catches and it stays closed. I will be contacting the dealer regarding this, it may be a malfunctioning lock.

I have also had my Sunfire for about a month now to. I bought the 1SC fully loaded and am experiencing the same problem with the trunk. Hopefully that can be fixed, but besides that, it's a nice ride the dollars spent.

I thought it was just me, at least I'm not alone with the trunk problems!

You need to shut the trunk gently. If you slam it down, the latch does not have enough time to catch. My Nissan has the same problem, and my Honda does too! Push it down don't slam it! :)

I have a Pontiac Sunfire 04 with the same back closing problem. The previous poster is correct - instead of slamming the back trunk down like a BMW or a Minivan - gently set it down with a push.

I have bought a Automatic silver 2004 Sunfire 4door sedan..

I like the looks and the dash lights are easy on the eyes at night.

However there is a bad rattle and a clunk in the undercarriage. When I hit bumps.

Highway driving is nice.. drags a bit in the city.

I am taking it in to a dealer...Hopefully they can help.

Does anyone know what the rattle could be?

I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire - Manual. I don't have this problem with my car (maybe because it is manual?) I've heard from several of my friends with Pontiacs that the automatic transmissions seem to have a clunk or banging in the suspension when they hit bumps or take corners really hard. None of them have fixed it though. I've seen it all around the web too. Let me know what you find out.

Hey dude, the suspension has nothing to do with the transmission, totally different part, totally different purpose! Just thought you should know!

I've had my 04' sunfire for almost a year and a half now, and I absolutley love it! Its great on gas mileage, it's compact, and it's very sharp looking compared to older Sunfires.

The only thing I'm not fond of is the color. Mine is "taupe" or sandalwood if you will. It's a very nice color, especially with the black interior, it's just not my particular taste. There is also a whistling or squeaking in the passenger side front end. Does anyone else have this problem? I have yet to go to the dealership to get it fixed.

I think that just about every Cavalier/Sunfire in production has that same whistling squeal coming out of the front end. Took my Cavalier to the dealer many times, though many of the mechanics claimed they "couldn't" hear the noise. Other than that, no complaints :D.

I have a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. Automatic.Love it. Very good on gas and I have no problems with the car. I do the regular tuneups and everything else, so if your having probelms with your Sunfire, please make sure you havent neglected the car. I have no big problem with mine except the stock cd player, I will be installing a Sony or a Panasonic into the car very soon.

Otherwise, the car was worth the money. :)

I have an 04 Sunfire... purchased used with 23,000 + on it. I have had it since July of 05...I have 77,000 + on it now and the gas gauge just stopped working. Anyone else with similar problems? Easy fix?

I own a 2004 Sunfire, its great on gas and it goes very nicely with the Ecotec and the automatic. Yea, I have had the squeaking probelms up front, passenger side, but not anymore, it stopped after I replaced the brakes with some Duralast Lifetime brakes, and that has been the only real thing that I have done to my car apart from the routine stuff. I love this car a lot and its looks a lot better than the older models, ewww, just what were they thinking when they designed the 1st gen Sunfires? I love the look of the sunfire during the night, it has the "get out of my way or i'll make you" look up front.

I have the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire with the manual transmission. In all I am pretty satisfied, but does not compare to my celica that I had. I bought the car used last year with 29,000 miles on it, it now has just over 38,000 miles on it. My problem is while driving the other day, the clutch pedal went straight down to the floor board and now I cannot get the key to turn (I assume it is because of the clutch not engaged). It is hard to believe that the clutch would go out with that low of mileage, is this a defect? I bought the car thinking it would be low upkeep and cannot afford to fix it.

I have a 2004 Sunfire that I bought used just 4 months ago. It now has 53,000 kms on it. The clutch pedal went straight to the floor on mine too and we couldn't get the car to start either. What the problem with our's was that the clutch line was rubbing up against the brake line and eventually wore through the line so the fluid leaked out. We had to replace the hose. The mechanic said the clutch line was routed badly. Has anyone else had this problem?
