Before reaching 20 000 km, the following problems happened : First my check engine light went on several times without any reason, and the dealer could not correct the problem.
The clutch had to be changed, although my driving was not in cause, the dealer refused to repair it under guarantee and billed me 800 $ for the repairs.
At 65 000 km : After the guarantee just expired, the manifold had to be replaced, the hand brake cables had to be replaced, the driver's door switch was defective, there was a problem with the seatbelt, radiator fluids were leaking, and finally, fuel consumption was higher than normal.
All these things happened after my warranty had expired, costing me hundreds of dollars. The dealer, was never returning my phone calls, could never book me an appointment or lend me or lease, a replacement car for a day.
Regarding maintenance, I attended every maintenance recommended by the manufacturer, by the book.
My experience was extremely frustrating, I will never buy a Hyundai again, and I will never recommend a Hyundai to anyone. Service is poor, quality is weak, replacement parts are expensive, and are always back order.
Tires provided with the car are not very resistant and reliable and they have to be replaced very early.
The only thing this car as to offer is a bold look, great engine sound, cool interior and that is about it.
I don't think there is a 1.5L engine with the Hyundai Tiburon..
I apologize, for writing 1.5 L engine. It is a 2.0 L engine. (my mistake).
How awful. Sounds like you got stuck with a lemon. I've put 75,000 brutal miles on mine and have never had a problem except for a stalling problem that seemed to correct itself at around 65,000. Your dealer sounds like a schmuck though.
A lot of your problems sound like improper upkeep of your car. Every car is pron to those problems, it all depends on how well you keep track of your car. My car has only 36k miles on it and it has never given me any problems except for when I first bought it. My throttle sensor went bad other than that I've had a perfect car. A very reliable car.
Why are you blaiming the car for the poor dealership. My dealer is 110% great. He provides ride to / from work when car in for service.
2003, 46,000mi V6, Auto. I did change tires from Michelin to Bridgestone for better ride.
Service so far - All covered
Sun roof motor
Driver seat leather worn in 1 spot
O2 sensor.
I think your mechanic is not reliable, some have been known to purposely damage your car.
I have had a lot of the same problems with my car and these other people should just wait and see! The cigarette lighter broke 5 times due to the fact that the cup holder is placed right above it and condensation drips into the lighter, yes even with the cover closed! There was a major oil leak that had to be fixed (thankfully under warranty) at about 30,000, the transmission then had to be replaced after 5 months of taking it to the dealership for shift changing problems and the dealership saying it was from having the air conditioner on! The windows have gotten stuck since 35,000 miles (it is on occasion, but is still a pain) it has been "resolved" 4 times, twice under warranty, twice without. The seat belts continually get stuck or twisted since I bought the car. Now there is valve tapping in the engine and yes all of my maintenance has always been up to date since I bought the car brand new (with records to show so, ask the dealership!) It has been problem after problem and I will never buy a hyundai again or tell anyone to do so themselves. There are too many unseen warranty details and they do not tell you of TSB's for your car or provide proper documentation for recalls.
I just wanted to agree with the last post, as I have had nothing but problems since I bought the car. It now has about 89,000 miles on it, but I have literally replaced almost every part of the car-brakes several times, transmission, belts numerous times, etc. The transmission was the biggest problem-I had problems with it for over a year, and after taking it to the dealer several times and spending over $2000 on "necessary" repairs that the dealer guaranteed would fix the problem, (once they told me that they found metal shavings in the transmission, but it was totally normal and they saw the same thing in almost all new cars, so it was nothing to worry about), I had to have the transmission replaced, as it would no longer shift at all and was therefore completely undriveable. Just a few weeks ago I had my most recent problem, which prompted me to read the reviews on this website. I was driving on the interstate and when the car in front of me stopped, I tried to brake. Suddenly, I had no brakes. Luckily, I avoided an accident, but this problem cost me another $450 (Master Cylinder failure). In addition, recently the car has occasionally gotten stuck in park and no amount of turning the wheel, pressing the brake, etc. will get it to shift. I am now to the point where I have to press the shift over-lock button every single time I shift out of park-I have not taken the car to the dealer about this problem yet because I just spent the $450 about two days before this new problem began. Admittedly, my car has a lot of miles on it (again, 89,000), but I have had nothing but problems from the very beginning. I got a good price on the car, but have spent far and away what I would have spent on a much nicer car in maintenance and repair costs. I would advise anyone reading this not to buy a Hyundai, and instead to purchase a car that is at least a little bit reliable.
