"Cheap to run, fast, reliable, and very durable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Replaced Thermostat

Automatic seatbelt broke on driver side.

Only routine service done otherwise, such as oil change and coolant change/flush. Grease wheel bearings/sustpension.

General comments?

Almost anyone that doesn't know anything about the Ford Tempo or someone who has gotten ahold of a bad one will completely disagree with what I have to say.

I have to say first this car has had nothing go wrong considering the way I drive it. Every time I drive the car I am accelerated as hard as I can from stops taking it to about 6,000rpm. (i installed a tach on the A-pillar where the screw holds the trim on), taking corners at speeds I shouldn't be, and doing more offroading then the Tempo was probably made for.

Fuel economy shouldn't be a reason to purchase this car since I only get about 20 mpg.

This car is no Mustang when it comes to acceleration or cornering, but it is a good car to learn with. You have to be good to take corners fast with this car and still be on the road. As far as acceleration it will out run most every car in its class.

This car has been through an awful lot and I have to say I will always own a Tempo because this car has done nothing, but amaze me all the time. I have hit deer, Pheasants, raccoons, etc. I have drove through muddy fields, deep snow, down ditches (accidentally). After all of this the car had nothing more than a cracked grille and cracked rear bumper skirt.

I will always own a Tempo!!!

I completely agree with you %100. I my self have a white 1989 Ford Tempo GL. I have put it through any thing and everything I could think of. I have gone mudding, Running through rivers (only 1 foot deep and real fast), it has good traction on the ice and snow when I drive legally and the car is still in good condition. Though the Transmission is slipping it still runs great.

I agree also, the Ford Tempo is indestructible! I can't wait to get mine on the road come winter time. Off road racing is fun considering I did 50 mile an hour donuts with my 1989 Ford Tempo. Mind you I did it in an empty lot and not during winter.

You have it 100% dead on there pal. Tempos are the most amazing sedans ever, in my opinion. Sure they aren't the hottest, or the most luxurious, but they do well for what they are. I have been driving mine for about 8 months, I learned to drive in it, and I drive it now that I have my license for 6 months. She's the best car I could have ever gotten as a teen. I think I may have killed myself in a Mustang or something. I guess a 1994 V6 5-speed would have been better, but they're all basically indestrucable. tempotopaz. com also inspired me to get NOS for my 4cylinder beast when I get the money.

I've been wanting to put in a tachometer, but I don't know where it hooks up... if you can help me out email me at KevinFarr at Gmail d0t c0m.
