First week - interior head lamp replaced.
The following are the points that you cannot get in any other car for the same price: handling, acceleration, always available torque, 6 speed manual, helical limited slip, all disc brakes, efficiency (considering performance), refinement, standard options, awesome available options (brembo breaks).
Put all these points into one car and you can't go rong.
If you are buying... stay away from 02 because it suffers from poor decisions in initial design. MOST problems were fixed half way through the 02 model year. 03 has all the 02 fixes + major improvement on transmission, but still some inherent mechanical problems remain. 04 fixes everything and has a make over. The make over includes a toned down interior(gauge cluster is more refined and less boy racerish), tail end of car is way nicer on 04, the front is less aggresive and more conservative(I prefer 04 front if the grille is replaced-cheap mod).
04 is definitely the year to get regardless of the front end... which I being 30 prefer the 04 front anyway (just need new grill-cheap fix).
awesome car!!!!
I rote this review and somehow the running costs changed from an 8 to a 4.
It should be an 8.
I totally agree with you about '04. This car is the best car I ever had for almost two months. I used to have sentra '02 for a year, it wasn't great, I kept receiving several problems that weren't normal.
Nissan Sentra 2004 SRE.
I must be honest, I hate this car. I have had it since march and I wish I never bought it. The front end must have problems because the car pulls in every direction when the car accelerates. The cup holders are in a very awkward spot and are pretty much useless for large beverages because the dashboard sticks out above them. The seats are very uncomfortable for long road trips and the gap between the back rest and seat itself makes it impossible to hold maps, Cds, etc on the seat because everything ends up on the back floor. In winter, I find the car very dangerous to drive because it has ZERO handling whatsoever.
I would NOT recommend a Sentra to anyone.
To the last post - test drive it before you buy it.
I have a 04 spec-v my buddy has a 03 spec-v we both have about 30,000 km and drive our cars hard and they are both bullet proof to date.
In Canada for the price, this car is unbeatable. If I was in US I probabley would have got the wrx.
Hi,
I have had a Nissan Sentra in my family for over 20 years. I loved my 1982 Sentra and was sorry when electrical problems finally did it in. Ten days ago I found a slightly used (13,000 miles) SER V-SPEC Sentra, and it was love at first sight. I took the car for a test ride and was driving it home in a couple of hours. Unfortunately with each passing day the love affair is waning.
I read the second to last post and saw all my thoughts exactly. When we had snow this week,my car handled terribly. From the child size cup holders to the lack of rear leg room I realize this car is designed for a much younger person and not an old coot like myself (40 years old). The car all around seems cheaply made, from the paint to the interior. I guess I got what I paid for.
1882 Sentra! Wow! That must be worth $$$millions!!!
To you who said your car pulled under acceleration think for a second.. you're driving a 2.5L; it's a torquey motor, your pull is torque steer. It can easily be fixed.
This is one of the most fun to drive cars I have driven in a long time. I enjoy my 2004, and I enjoy the yellow color.
I have an 06 spec-v and it's a great little car! The is cheaply made! I have had no problems with my car! I've even took my car to the track. The truth about the car is that it's good for the money, but most people don't buy cars for what they are made for! This car is made to driven around town only not long distances!!! The ride is stiff and bumpy for better handling! The seats are of racing design not for comfort! The car has real bad over-steer which most front wheel cars have when driving at high speeds when cornering! The cars interior is cheaply made for cost and for weight purposes. The lighter the car the faster it will go! The cheaper the parts the less it cost! The car is a small car so why would people have a lot of leg room (hmmm)! When people buy cars they don't know what they're buying, but they complain about what they purchase! The car is a small cheap car with a big engine for its class that's made for TUNERS!!! Cheap low budget with a big engine drive Fast and have Fun.
Hey, I'm a 2004 Spec V owner already for 8 months, and all I can tell you, is if you're planning to buy this car, do your research first, don't go crazy and then blame the ride. As long as you fix the pre-cat failures, lock tide the butterfly screws, and do regular maintenance like oil change on time, this ride will last forever.
I'm in love with my car so far, it is strong, fast, has all the features I wanted on a car, sunroof, disc brakes, 17" rims, 6 gears, spoiler, fog lights etc... it is the best bang for the buck, considering is it a car for young people. Why would a 40 year old guy buy a car like this???
I do recommend this car, if what you're looking is a sporty simple ride that has the power and torque enough to make you happy on the road.
Cons:
I would only say the cup holders in front and no double din space for an after market HU. I do agree they don't fit big cups, but easy fix for this: pull out the cup holder you have on the back, they are very accessible from the front chairs.
My ride at 64K is still strong as a rock. :)
