2001 Chevrolet Camaro SS from North America - Comments

7th Jan 2004, 00:52

"Beautiful, Very Fast, Z06 Wheels, A High Performance Street Rod!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front Rotors warped at 11,000 miles, Dealer turned them.

Slight engine tapping noise at startup.

Dealer replaced "O" ring (11,000 miles) did not help.

(15,000 miles) Engine noise now very loud Determined it was the infamous "Piston Slap" Dealer replacing all 8 pistons at 17,800 miles.

(15,000) Front rotors warping again.

Rear hatch does not always open like it should.

General comments?

Had a 92 RS, 95 Z28 LT1, and this 01 SS is even faster.

Forced air induction, All reviews on the LS1 Z/28 SS state that it beats any stock mustang including the Cobra.

All Camaro SS's go through SLP (Street Legal performance Engineering) prior to delivery for performance upgrades.

Several reports of mid to high 12's in the 1/4 mile stock!

Poorer mans Corvette!

Would buy again, but they stopped making them after 2002 Bad Move!!!

Well lol as for your warped rotors (STOP RACING ON THE STOCK DISCS if you want to race upgrade and get crossed drilled discs) As for your piston slap (Don't RACE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!)

I agree with the first comment, camaros should have never been dropped. I have 4 of my friends who all drive camaros, me and 2 of my other friends want to buy one also, my brother got a good price for his camaro ss that gives 325hp.

Sorry, but they won't. GM cancelled the platform that the new Camaro and other new rwd models would have used. Given the General's current financial difficulties, it seems unlikely that they are going to gamble on a new muscle car, especially considering how dismal the sales of the Pontiac GTO have been, but keep writing to GM to bring back the Camaro, maybe you can still make a difference.

If we've learned anything about GM, it's that they'll slap a once proud nameplate on anything.

Look at the hideous Ventura (Nova) based GTO of the mid-70's. Even the GTO of today is a disappointment.

GM will find a platform to hang the Camaro and Firebird nameplates on within the next few years. That is, if they don't go belly-up first. I actually think GM will lose another nameplate (Buick? Pontiac? Saturn? GMC?) or two, in the not too distant future.

Back to the Camaro, if they want to do it right, it will be on an appropriate

rear-drive coupe. Both look what Dodge has done with the Charger name. Put it on a sedan, however it actually out-performs the old Charger with the Hemi. Just when gas hit $3. a gallon US! Excellent timing!

Yes look for a 4 cyl fwd camaro in the future. I have no respect for gm, they are over priced, parts are extremely over priced, over complicated in areas where they don't need to be - (ie working on them), and now they have a 5.3L fwd impalla. I don't understand them, no wonder they are announcing major layoffs of factory workers! as much as I HATE to admit it, chrysler in my humble opinion is the only one of the big three that is making some real middle budget performance cars, with the exception of the ford mustang. ford needs to start making some more real cars too though, as one car is not enough.

As for the above comment about chrysler bringing in v8 cars when gas is $3 a gallon, (once again I hate to think that I am defending chrysler) they have the mds (I think its called) cylinder cutout when not under much load and from what I hear it performs fairly seemlessly and delivers decent fuel economy.

thats my little rant. as far as im concerned, the big three seriously suck right now, but I wont be going out and buying a little japanese biscuit box any time soon, unless I can get a labotomy first. if they start making RWD cars I might concider it.

sorry about my spelling, grammer, and punctuation - I went to a public school

As fas as GM goes, the F-body will return on a different platform, that is as definite as the sun rising tomorrow. With that said, Chrysler is the biggest joke of a company after their aquisition by Daimler. They are now considered imports, Ha! How's that feel? Who the hell wants an overpriced Chrysler, that is a half engineered, underpriced Benz. Not me. Chrysler didn't even know what an overhead cam was until Daimler showed them the 3.7 and made Jeep stuff them in Liberty's. I have no respect for Chrysler for allowing themselves to be bought by the Germans. Think about this for a second, the Germans now own the very vehicle taht helped defeat them from taking over the world! The Jeep!

I own a 2001 Corvette and a 2001 Camaro, and they're the best cars I've ever bought in my life. Granted I've had stupid problems with them, but nothing unusual. There fast as hell, and I've never been beat. Go muscle!!!
