I do not know where to start!
Engine went at 220, 000 kms.
Multiple brake jobs, too many to count.
Power window broken.
CD player broke.
Replaced heater knob twice.
Bad design... overheated 3 ignition coils. This caused car to shut down with no warning often on the highway!!
Wiring malfunctions... replaced O2 sensor 2 times.
Timing belt tensioner 2 times.
Power steering pump seized.
Alternator malfunction.
Replaced radiator and fan relays.
Would like to say this was a good car because in general they are quite 'reliable'. This was a 90 accord EXR.
I have put so much money into this car. If my husband was not a mechanic and did not have access to wholesale parts I would have sold it a long time ago.
I have finally realized that it is a complete lemon and I should have realized this sooner, but it was nice to drive and had all the trimmings.
I am always surprised when I hear all of the good ratings and wonder if I am just that one rare unlucky owner.
My husband did not like working on this vehicle it was a pain. Just to do the timing belt it was an extensive job.
This car was also very noisy on the road and shifted rough.
Beware parts for these cars are expensive and you may need many.
Come on, a "disaster" at this mileage? This review reads like someone who just bought a $40,000 Benz. You can't drive around in a car that's worth 800 bucks due to its age and mileage, and then play the scorned consumer because things are breaking on it.
I am a very happy owner of a 1990 Accord and have been very satisfied with all aspects of the vehicle. Some of the comments I read which were negative sound fictional. Of course the power steering will seize if it runs out of fluid or the wrong lubricant is used. That is simple neglect. I am definitely sold on the quality, looks, performance and reliability, Etc. I would not hesitate to purchase another.
I am also an owner of a 1990 Accord EX-R, and though it does not have as much power as my previous car (Buick 3.3L), I am satisfied with what this car has to offer, and also satisfied performance wise. I could not help myself reading the mileage on your car, and it is only fair to do some repairs on a 11, to 15 year old car. To be fair, did you not drive this car over 70 000 km??? And another thing, it has 2.2L engine, not a 2.0, good luck with your next car :).
Jeje...Disaster?? Come on!
Well, you didn't buy a TANK! Come on, over 200,000 miles?? You can't get that on over 80% of the American manufactured cars. So when did you expect the Honda to completely die, half a million? You are a miracle!
Well I was readig all of the reviews. after only seeing this one I decided that there was only one car that was maybe a lemon. I bought from a dealer and they said it was a good car. two weeks of ownership it burns so much oil that sometimes you cannot see out of the back window. they tried to tell me off when I went to return it. so I threatened to take them to small claims court. now they want to exchange a car for me. won't give me my money back. but I am waiting till I find a good car.
I have owned our 1990 Accord EX-R from the day we bought it new out of the showroom. It's been extremely reliable.
It took ten years for me to require my first, and so far only, brake job. I credit that to having a manual transmission. I've replaced one headlight bulb and a taillight. I'm on my second set of tires.
We just returned from a driving holiday in the Canadian Rockies. The Honda performed perfectly. It was incredibly hot so the air conditioner received a good workout.
This car still gets many compliments. I won't be replacing it in the immediate future.
I live in the USA and own a 1990 Accord EX, which is like the Canadian EX-R, sunroof, aluminum wheels, extra HP etc.
The car now has 378,000 miles on it. In addition to normal repairs ie. brakes / exhaust / ignition system / timing belt / suspension / weather strips, I have replaced the following parts: radiator 2x, distributor 2x, a/c condenser, blower motor, control knob, hood release, door latch ($500), stereo system, fuel line, and power antenna.
The car has rusted badly and has a knack for sustaining windshield damage such as cracks and chips. I have replaced it many times and it's cracked again now?
I have enjoyed the car a lot, but the repair costs seem very high when needed, looking back I don't know if it was worth it, possibly a lemon, certainly no bargain.
