I think all of the ford taurus and mercury sable vehicles from 1992-1995 were junk. their transmissions fail way to soon. the dash is so large and made of really cheap hard plastic, that in the summer the car is hard to cool using the a/c. I currently am trying to get the taurus's transmission diagnosed, due to its hard downshifting and speed control unit that goes into nutreul on the highway (very dangerous).
This car is comfterable and has a handsome design, but don't let the looks fool you when buying one. It just seems like everyday there is a new problem with it. I wouldn't recommend buying a taurus between these years as they have a poor mechanical design.
Thanks for the warning, I too, was about to be fooled into buying one just for the looks or the body design. I have heard so much negative about the ford taurus, especially the transmission I currently own a 1987 nissan Maxima, which is a very reliable car. Had 178,000 miles on it when I purchased it, and I put 20,000 mls on it and had no engine or transmission problems. I don't really care too much for American made cars. Was in the market for a second car, but after reading these reviews about the Ford Taurus, I will defenitly not waste my money on one. thank you!!!
I have had my 1994 Ford Taurus for almost 2 years. The only problem I had in two years was a hole in the radiator (easily fixed and a new powering steering wheel hose). I find the car very reliable and dependable, and it gets me everywhere I go and I love it.
I've owned a '94 Taurus GL for the past 4 years without any mechanical failures whatsoever. The car is not only dependable, but retains classic styling and comfort.
My only complaint (small) is why the body side moldings tend to develop black mold. A little bleach and it's gone, but you know that can't be good for the paint. An upgrade to the '95 LX, SE headlamps wouldn't hurt either.
The reason why I dislike Ford. These cars are prone to engine fires. The only good part is the dealer paid for not one, but two engines which is a rare case these days.
