When I got the car brand new from the dealer, there are some unimaginable faults. Firstly, the wheel alignment is out (even after rectifying once and till present, it is still veering left), faulty lock in rear left door, and poor pre-delivery polishing.
The new face-lift was a great! Especially the hatchback. Spacious interior, and has a ample boot space.
The high seats allow easy entering and exiting by old folks and mommy-carrying-babies. Kerb weight is around 1.8 ton which quite heavy for a 1.6L engine.
The only setback is that I'm clocking the fuel consumption at 1l=9km. And also even sadder that the VVT engine version is not brought into Singapore.
I'm sorry I made a mistake on the kerb weight. It is actually 1,180kg for the 1.6AT 5-door (2WD)
Y your fuel consumption quite high? do you travel a lot in city areas?
I'm clocking an average of 10.8km/L now. More on city driving than highway driving after 9 months now. Already installed the Cyclone2 and manufacturer also gave Denso iridium plugs. Recently made them changed the disc brakes which constantly gives a "snapping" sounds...for free.
Do anyone else's windows rattle? I have a 2002 Liana hatchback which I'm highly delighted with except that I have to almost constantly fiddle with the electric windows to keep them from vibrating with a tiny, annoying rattle.
If I close the windows right up, they're fine for a few miles then one will start to buzz quietly. If I drop the window a few millimeters, the noise stops for a while then I have to close the window right up when the rattle comes back.
I mentioned it to my dealer when I had the last service, but they couldn't hear the noise at all. I don't think they road-tested it for long enough.
My Liana was a dream car until I purchased one. Upon delivery the stop lamp was broken, the hand / parking brake had a broken rubber piece, the dash board needed some repair and the rear hatch opener was broken. Not to mention the strength required to open or close the door. The after sales service was not very encouraging, but I certainly like the drive and don't think I made a mistake.
Is the Suzuki Liana 2006 available in Singapore really on VVT (Variable Value Timing) engine? Nothing about the VVT is written on the manual or the car engine.
I am rather disturbed by the "GLi" label printed at the back of the car. :|
Is anyone out there with a more positive comment on the Liana Sedan 1.6 VVT (AT) version? Seems like I have yet to see one on the road. I just purchase one in early Arpil 2006 and waiting for delivery in mid-June or early July. I am a bit worried that the car may not be ideal when compared to others such as Toyota Altis or the Hyundai Getz.
After 50000 km and 3 years I'm 100 % happy with my Liana.
I am in Singapore and looking to buy a Liana. However, I read some comments that the gear changing is not smooth and when you are negotiating a turn it is also not smooth.
Can someone with more experience give me more fair comments so that I can be very sure that this is a car worth buying.

I also heard that the VVT engine is similar to Toyota Altis VVT-i except there is no i. What is this i?

The I in Toyota's VVT-i stands for intelligence.
I drive an Aerio (Liana in Canada) with a 2.0 engine and manual transmission. Gear changing is wonderfully smooth and precise. I enjoy shifting in this car. I can compare it to Toyota's Rav4 and Yaris, and the Suzuki is better.
Cornering is OK. Tires are bit worn now (50kkm), so they are screaming if I go too fast. The car gives you a lot of warning before you start losing control, so there's always is time to correct.
So far we have had absolutely no problems with the car. It is used in family business for deliveries and supply, driven on short distances, sometimes loaded heavy, and nothing has failed, and it still feels like it was when new. I am actually thinking about buying it out from the company for my girlfriend to drive.

I have been driving my Liana 1.3 HB for 1.5 year. All are OK except for rattling sound from doors. I insulated my doors with sound proofing and it is better now. Even closing the doors sound exclusive, like big cars. I am doing 13.5km/l and using Caltex 95. I did some legal mod like, Voltage Stabliser, 10 pt grounding, Cyclone 2, K&N on air intake, E68 on the vaccum, 2 strong magnet on the fuel pipes. of course an improvement for the performance, but can't compare with a 1.6. If can try the new 1.6 VVT. it is better that Getz or Matrix.
The i in VVTi stands for injection, not intelligence.
Actually, I spoke to my dealer today and the I stands for intelligence.
I am looking at Suzuki Liana Auto 1.6 with VVT engine. Would current owner be able to comment on the maintenance cost of this model and its fuel economy?
I've had my Liana (1.3 Hatchback) for 2 years 8 months now (about 55,000 km).
It's a really convenient car - I've managed to load bicycles, wadrobes, armchairs, shelves, garden chairs etc into the car! (Not all at one go, of course!).
It's fuel-efficient - I do about 13 km/l. The pick-up is not fabulous, but I guess it was never meant to be a sports car!
Overall, it's a great ride!
