2003 Chevrolet Blazer LS from North America - Comments

"Performance is sorely lacking"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Not long after we purchased this vehicle, the brakes began to squeal. When we notified the dealer, they said that it's typical of a new vehicle and that we'd have to "break" it in. They also said they wouldn't touch the engine if it was under 3,000 miles. Since then the following has been happening:

1. the truck shakes at a hard break (when contacted the dealer, again, he said it was typical)

2. gas leak in gas tank.

3. when making a full turn, (as in a U-turn) you can hear the wheels "pop" as you turn.

4. when accelerating, the engine sounds as if I'm driving a diesel truck.

General comments?

It is generally a nice looking vehicle, but it has many problems.

If the dealer would fix the problems listed, I think I would enjoy the vehicle more.

As it is now, I'm afraid that something very wrong will happen with it.

We have owned GM vehicles for as long as I can remember and this is the first time that we are extremely disappointed in it's performance.

It really adds a huge seed of doubt in American made cars.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty certain that our next vehicle will be foreign.

Thank you for your Chevy Blazer review. I too, am afraid after reading other reviews that something will go wrong with my 2004 Blazer. Already, at only 13.000 miles, the air conditioning is having problems. I have it in the shop and we'll see what they say later today.

For ten years I drove Mitsubishi products. Never a problem. I'm pretty sure this will be my first and last Chevy product.

Thank you for your comments on the Blazer. I am looking to possibly by one, but not to sure now. As for your shaking upon hard braking, that is not normal. being in the brake repair business I can tell you for sure to have your rotors or drums turned, they are out of round.

I too purchased a 2003 Blazer at a "fairly reasonable" price. I thought for a mature platform that the bugs would have been worked out. Since then, I've had a series of intermittent irritating problems. The truck makes a loud "roaring" sound for about a half a block after I leave the garage, then settles down to normal. The A/C and heater controls did not direct the air to the proper vents. (Could not get floor or defrost air). When on high heat something in the dashboard makes a "tinking" sound. On hot days when a/c compressor on, engine seems to have a miss in it every five seconds or so. Also in this condition I get a lot of knocking and pinging. Only thing that the dealer has been able to fix has been putting new actuators to direct the vent air. They tried putting in the 2004 computer program to control knocking and pinging. May have had limited improvement, but did not solve the problem. About the only time truck runs right is in cool weather with the heater/AC controls off.

My 2003 Blazer is quite possibly the worst vehicle ever built! 3 stereo's, complete electrical overhaul, two batteries, fit and finish problems, ball joints at 25 000 and several times it had to be towed to the dealer -- on one occasion they let it sit in my driveway for 4 days. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANY GM PRODUCT after this experience. They wouldn't let me out of the lease when I offered to buy a truck on their lot -- terrible service, terrible cars and a terrible experience!

Basically, every blazer that has come from the Linen, NJ plant has had some sort of problem. This could be why Chevrolet closed that plant. Or mabye the reason for the issues are that the employees of that plant new that they were meeting there demise a few years before the closing of their plant by GM. I have one of these vehicles, a 2003 ZR2 Blazer, and have had my fair share of issues. (vehicle caught fire at 700miles, two cat converters, one altenator, two batteries, atf contaminated vacuum system (no 4x4 and atf in ashtray from ac control), and numerous interior issues. I feel that these cannot be blamed on the engineering of the vehicle, but assembly issues instead. Good car, crappy workmanship. Go UAW! I would recommend this tank anyday. I have 42k on vehicle now. Dealer supported issues when under warranty. Solid unit now! A+ for GM! D- for UAW assembly workers at that plant! And people wonder why American corporations farm out their work to other countries! Is it right? NO! But is it fair that a UAW employee makes $38 an hour? No! Some doctors don't even make this. Buy what you like! If you don't like it, sell, or trade it off! I would recommend this car to anyone! Especially before a car made out side of the USA!

Bought a 2003 blazer zr2 brand new. Lemoned it back to General Motors. I bought this vehicle new and didn't find out the 4x4 didn't work until I got stuck in the snow. There was a leak that was "fixed" 5 times, the engine cooling system went out and the 4x4 broke again... all within 20,000 miles. I loved the truck as far as looks and comfort, but the mechanics of it were horrible.

I have had my 2004 blazer for over 3 years, 109,000 miles, I got it with 9000 miles on it. I had to replace the lower ball joints, that is the ONLY problem I have had until 107,000 when the ac quit working. Best vehicle I have ever owned.

Bought my 2003 Blazer LS new. Has approx 70000 miles on it now. Only problems I've had are ball joints as stated above. (I've had it in some pretty hairy off road situations, so it was no surprise.) But, they were still covered under warranty. Also had the latch for the end gate break. And that's it for problems with my Blazer so far. I LOVE THIS VEHICLE!
