Hi, I'm Andrew, and my 97' Taurus is my first car. This is a really good, solid car. It handles just as good as my mom's 2002 Sable (same thing).
An older couple had it, and they never reported any major trouble with it either. I plan on driving this Taurus until it falls apart, so I will keep you informed as anything goes wrong with it (let's just hope it won't) ;)
Nothing is wrong with this Taurus! Tip-Top shape! I would gladly get another one!!
Classic V6 power.
Looks good.
Comfortable.
AFFORDABLE!!
Great, solid, reliable car.
I have heard that the Ford dealers are notorious for being lazy, and not fixing your car though...eeek.
The 97 Ford Taurus is a terrific car in many ways. I received mine as a gift from my parents my junior year in high school (2001). I then drove it to my high school graduation and four years later drove it to my college graduation in 2006. I currently own the 97 Taurus and it still pulls like the first day I drove it. Despite driving long hard miles (Odo 200K) every day the car is an embodiment of reliability.
Repairs:
motor mount
switch that turns on lights when braking
mass air flow sensor.
Being a very commom domestic car, the reapairs were cheap and simple. My favorite thing to do is smoke young kids driving stock Civics and Jettas. With good regular maintenance the 97 Ford Taurus is truly indestructible.
I had a 97 Taurus Wagon, I bought it with 99300 on the odometer. It required no repairs other than a brake line and battery and it just died at 150000. The timing belt broke and it threw a rod, but as far as reliability--with regular oil changes it ran and drove nicely.
