2003 Hyundai Sonata from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When stopped and idling the steering wheel vibrates. The longer you drive the car the more it vibrates when you stop (like a red light). It gets so bad at times it vibrates the seat. I have reported this to my dealer 14 times only to be told that this is the way a 4 cylinder engine acts. I do not buy that and I would appreciate anyone having the same problem to please E-Mail me at MScavone@cfl.rr.com.

Seems like this is a problem you should have noticed on the test drive before you purchased the car.

Or didn't you test drive it?

Thanks for your comment I did test drive the car, but the problem did not start until after about 3000mi was put on the car. The dealer and their service techs. all feel the vibration, but say this is the way a 4cylinder is suppose to be. I just got a letter from my State Attorney who has accepted my Lemon Law claim.

Try to check the engine trottle tuning, bad connection of spark plug. perhap just check the ecu make sure the machine have all proper mixture. as a car user vibration is annoying and create stress rater than enjoy the ride.

I just bought my car 2 weeks ago and it does the same thing. I was told I would need to break in the car and that it was normal to vibrate. I also have a rattling noise in the dash board that I need to check out. Does anyone else have that problem?

Maria.

I've never heard that 4 cylinder engines just naturally act that way, but my 93 camry did that at times and I'd just shift it into neutral until the light turned green.

I have a 2000 doge neon 2.0 and the steering wheel shakes when idling as well, some things you learn to deal with. Today we bought a 2003 LX Sonata and we love it so far, V6's just act a little smoother.

My 2001 Hyundai Accent shakes too. I took it to a shop and they said I had a broken motor mount. But I got another one and it still shakes. I can feel it when I'm idling, and the dash where the cup holders sit shakes, and the passenger seat shakes, and the steering wheel. It didn't do that when I bought the car, but after I had the 3 belts changed it now does that. If anyone can help, please do so...

My '89 Chrysler Lebaron convertible has a 4cyl. engine and vibrates the same way. It's very noticeable. It vibrates the steering wheel, door panels, passenger seat. It's very annoying and my passengers notice. I thought I had a broken motor mount, but 2 different mechanics said the motor mounts are fine and they thought it ran well. Go figure! Typically, 4cyl. engines do tend to vibrate the car more than V6 engines. No clue why.
