This car was in very good condition for the time it sat unused. It hadn't run in eight years, and the battery, oil, coolant, tires, gas and oil filters and the wiper blades need replacing. Pretty good considering that they probably haven't been replaced during the cars entire life.
This car hasn't driven anywhere yet, but it will. This is my first car, I received it from my great-grandmother and it's a dream. All the work that I've done to it so far has been to flush the radiator, buy a new battery, and put in a few gallons of gas. With just a little starting fluid in the carb. it started up almost immediately. With all the other good reviews on '79 caddies I'm looking forward to what this thing can do.
That's really strange. You see, last August, my great-grandfather died and I got his '79 Cadillac Coup de Ville. Since then, I've been on multiple websites trying to figure out how much it's worth and where I can find parts for restoration, but never found another. So, it's just very strange to find another person with the same vehicle who received it in the same way. That's all.
I'd be interested in finding out how much you plan to sell it for (I wrote the article). I was going for like $2500 after all the work I will do to it. Heck the thing has power everything, climate control, cruise control, and the dang 7.0 liter engine is worth its weight in gold due to how much power it put out. I ripped out the headliner on the roof. I don't know if you've had any problems with yours, but mine was nasty. That foam stuff got everywhere, and it sagged down so far it covered up my eyes. Anyway, let me know.
I also got my hands on a 1979 Cadillac Coup De Ville with only 22,000 miles on it. I bought it from my father-in-law who had inherited it. It took about 3 years to convince him to sell it to me for $1,500.00 dollars. He sold it to me at a good price because he is a cadillac man and already had a DTS and a 1984 Allantee. I've had it for about 9 years and it now has 42,000 miles and is the most reliable car I own. It always starts and has never left me stranded. I let my wife drive it once in awhile, but she never parks it away from other vehicles and she needs to understand how much parking lot rash you can receive from another vehicle, or if your let the door swing open too quickly. I was offered $10,000.00 dollars for it about a week after bringing it home from Pismo Beach. I am writing this comment because I think it is time for me and the car to part ways. I am a salesman and I drive a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 so I rarely drive it anymore. I have a 14 year old daughter who is suddenly having an interest in the vehicle, but it may just be a faze she's going thru just to have a car. I kind of like the idea because of all the metal around her while she is driving, but I sure hope the price of gas comes down. Anyway I just wanted to put my 2 cents in and let people know how they don't make cars like they used to anymore. When I show my daughter the automatic headlights she says so what, then I have to explain to her that it wasn't a stock item in those days. Of course I also like giving her the line that when you see a brand item that you know is the best you call it the cadillac of lawnmowers, for example. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts.
