The master power window lock does not work as promised and as listed in the manual. When the driver presses the power window lock, only the driver is supposed to be able to control all 4 power windows. Instead, nobody can control the power windows, not even the driver. The dealer I leased the car from simply said sorry, they are all like that and refused to do anything for me.
Noticed very early on that the fuel economy was below where it was supposed to be. Was only getting between 400 and KM on a full 45 liter tank of gas, and this was a mixture of city and highway. I only reached close to 500KM on a tank of gas if I did 100% highway driving. I complained to the dealer constantly after 1 1/2 months and having over 3500KM already on the vehicle. I was told that it was normal until the engine was partially broken in, which should be around 3000KM. I already had over 3000 so they backtracked and said wait till 5000 km.
When I complained after 5000KM, they said wait till 6000Km when I did my first oil change. This of course was in the late summer and the weather was beautiful so I wasn't overheating or freezing the engine. I now have almost 12,000KM on this car, it is winter and I am getting between 200 and 275KM on a full tank of gas. This works out to approx 17 miles / imperial gallon at best.
My Rio wagon has been in numerous times to the dealer I purchased it at and they cannot seem to find a problem. They simply keep telling me to wait till I have more KM on the vehicle so that it is broken in. I have now taken it to the only other KIA dealership in the city, who found numerous problems with the electronics and sensors, but have now waited over 2 weeks for KIA Canada to send them the parts.
The car is comfortable, looks nice and for the most part drives well. Unfortunately I received a lemon and even though it has a 5 year warranty, it doesn't seem to do any good since the service I have received is sub-par.
Man, that gas mileage is worse than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I have 2 Toyota 4Runners, one V6 the other a 4 banger and both are much easier on gas (even in the winter using 4wheel drive). I would have a complete meltdown if I owned that vehicle!!
I AM having a meltdown. I've owned a 71 cougar xr-7 with a 351 cleveland, a 90 jimmy with a 4.3 vortec, and recently took my 93 asuna sunfire in my garage for some needed rebuilds and they all blew this thing away power wise AND got better fuel mileage (though it would be close with the 351..hehe). Hell, my dad has a 97 Thunderbird with a 2002 mustange gt Engine and an Allan engineering supercharger on it pushing probably 450+ bhp and HE gets way better mileage than I do.
Pulling the asuna aside was the reason for leasing this Kia, and the fact I needed to a better work vehicle and family car in the near future. Apparently that was a bad mistake.
Just got it back again today from the only other dealer in my city and they THINK they have the bugs worked out. I am fairly happy with the service they have given me, especially since it seems KIA Canada will not be paying them for most of it. Took almost 3 weeks to get the parts though.. grr. I wouldn't be so angry if the dealer had listened to me early on, admitted it was a lemon and either fixed it quickly or gave me a new car. They refused to give me a new car, refused to contact Kia to reimburse me in any way, and finally just blew me off.
Not only did I get a lemon (yes I understand it happens with all manufacturers..) but I was more or less told I had to keep it and to go away. If I did that to my customers, I'd be out of business REAL darn quick.
Sigh... rant over :-)
This shop just repaired some bad grounds, updated the programming in the ECU, replaced the now fouled sparc plugs and replaced a faulty throttle position sensor. Hopefully this fixes it so I can move on to getting KIA to reimburse me in some way for all this lost $$ in extra fuel costs, lost time at work and all the massive HEADACHES.
I wish I had waited the extra couple of months and leased a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer sportback. Wonder if they will release an EVO version of it WEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee.
I was thinking that KIA has 5 years warranty as on their website said:

Why you didn't fight for it???
Just for your information the master lock on the electric windows turns off the back two windows and the pasenger and only the drivers side window will work. its pretty much standard in new cars. what you said was a load of rubbish.
