2001 Chrysler Concorde LX from North America - Comments

"Junk, really high dollar junk"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Head gasket blew at 43,000 miles despite impeccable service record with receipts. Naturally, it had a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Had to have the door weatherstripping replaced at 20,000 miles. Fuel injector went bad at 4,000 miles.

Up till it quit, it was a great car.

General comments?

Lots of room, great ride, handled well.

I also own a 2001 LX, the only problem I've had was the oil light coming on at idle. I thought for sure it would be a $1000.00 oil pump replacement job. Luckily a mechanic overheard my conversation with the service person, and was able to tell me that there was a service bulletin that applied to vehicles equipped with the 2.7l engine that stated "with a hot engine the oil pressure light may be on or flicker on at idle." To fix this problem you need to buy a wire terminal/vent pt#05017800AA. It connects to the oil pressure switch connector to reduce the heat at the switch by having the heat travel up the wire. I wonder how many people got suckered into replacing their oil pumps when it wasn't the problem, and the repair shop added the wire terminal/vent to cover it up. I also recommend switching to synthetic oil to prevent any sludge problems. Synthetic oil will not bake at high temperatures to create the sludge. It may be a bit more expensive, but with the poor track records the 2.7l engines have, I'd say it's worth it.
