This car is a "retro" luxury car. It seems that Lincoln sacrificed new technology to build a perfected, reliable luxury car.
What you'll find is the same basic car the Town Car has always been with major cosmetic and suspension upgrades.
The interior layout has also improved with lighted switching on the doors, an oil life monitor and dual zone climate control.
Storage room has also increased with a trunk that is 10% larger than the previous model year and the addition of storage pockets built into the front door armrests.
It still has the same classic self leveling rear suspension, and option packages the Town Car has had for years. New options for 2003 include a full power open/close trunk lid, navigation, and H.I.D. headlamps.
I bought my Town Car Signature one owner used with only 9,000 miles on it and I absolutely LOVE this car. I paid a decent price for great American Luxury, too. (around $19,000) because it was a tax sale. This car will do anything for you, but pick your nose. It is one of the most comfortable cars I've ever ridden in, nothing in the past can compare, besides the '95-'97 Town Cars. I also have a '97 Town Car Signature and it is in almost mint condition, and I also bought this one used just this year (05) with 72,898 miles and just a little less than $6,000. The only gripe I have with this car is that I think the paint is slowly chipping away around the passenger door (possibly from the car wash?) because this was a one owner clean car-fax car, too. Any suggestions on what to do about this? And, I've been reading and saw that the intake manifold breaks on these cars (mine is still original) is there any warning before this happens? Such as the Check Engine light or something or does it just happen all at once? And, can anyone tell me when to expect the airbags on the suspension to need replacing, such as a common mileage range? My family has driven Lincoln Town cars since 1984. None of them have ever had one problem...EVER. The ride is whisper quiet and smooth, and the most recent (a 2003 Signature edition) has very impressive power and acceleration for such a large car. Other family members own BMW's, Jaguars and Mercedes. None of them impress me as much as the Lincoln for sheer luxury and comfort, especially on long trips.
I have a 2003 Town Car Executive and everyone that I talk to loves these cars. Ford sells about 50,000 of these cars a year. I am surprised that more owners don’t write reviews on their Town Cars, but I guess that the average town car owner has never even been on the internet.
There is no doubt that all these reviews are genuine. I don’t understand why that persons entry was made.
I can tell you that Town Cars are pleasure to own and drive. I look forward to buying a new one someday. Until I get a higher income, I will have to settle for $18,000 used Town Cars. I am 26 and just graduated college, but have not found a job yet, but when I do I will be in the line for a new Town Car if Ford still builds them, if not a Town Car, I guess I will get a fully loaded Mercury Montego.
This year we made our mother downsize to a smaller car due to the fact that she kept hitting things with her Town Car (she is getting on in years). The repair bills were getting to be a big problem for all the dents, dings, and scrapes. I must say, however, that none of the cars our family has owned has ever impressed me like the Town Car for sheer luxury and smooth, quiet ride with more than ample power. Mom has owned one since 1984 and none of them has ever had one single problem. They are, in my opinion, the absolute best luxury car on the planet. I've ridden in our friends' Mercedes and Jaguars and they do not impress me as much as the Town Cars do.
You wouldn't think so given the exorbitant price tag, but these cars are nothing more than gussied up Crown Vics. The features list is quite short when compared to comparable cars in this price class. These Town Cars have suffered from terribly unreliable and expensive faulty transmissions and airbag suspension systems. I do think they are gorgeous cars, but besides the styling, I find them to be rather crude and plain for a full-size luxury car. The comparable Cadillac DTS offers gadgets that aren't even available on the Town Car, rides far more supple, and has a very high tech engine in comparison. I love the classiness of the Town Car and think it's far more attractive than the Cadillac DTS, but it's really very little bang for your buck. A loaded up Crown Vic is about $20k (Yes, $20k!) less with many of the same features. I can't see justifying that much higher of a price tag over the Crown Vic for HID headlights and a remote closing trunk. You can buy another car with that, for cryin' out loud! My opinion of the Town Car is that it's a very attractive, and nice driving car overall, but the price is not justified by a long shot. They depreciate in value so quickly it's absurd to even contemplate buying one brand-new.
I got a new 2006 Town Car for only $28,999 while on special. I had looked at a new fully loaded Grand Marquis LS with dual heated seats and every option. That special order Grand Marquis was going to be almost $30,000.
I realize that my $29,999 Town Car was a special in inventory deal, but if you look hard and are willing to travel a day or two, you can get a Town Car for the same money as an ordered Grand Marquis fully loaded.
This is my second Town Car. My first one was a 1996. The 96 was a great car that got up to 190,000 miles with only a new intake manifold and a new power window. I donated the car to charity after I backed into a tall sidewalk and busted up the back bumper. The car still drove fine and looked fine from a distance. I went to the charity auction to see what my old car brought and it raised $2400. Not bad for a ten year old car with almost 200,000 miles and some damage.
By the way I got 23.0 mpg out of the 96 and I get 22.1 avg. out of the new one. Not bad for a big car. My 2000 V-6 Toyota 4-runner gets 14 mpg in the same driving and the Town Car is heavier.
I have owned a 2003 Town Car for about 1 year and it is a great car. It's the best riding car I've ever owned. I have never had any problems with it. I don't know why everyone wants to keep comparing it to a Mercury Marquis. Those cars are not half as beautiful as the Lincoln. The Town Car just looks much more sophisticated. That big chrome grille and low, limo like stance is just perfect. The Marquis looks like a church and grocery store car no matter how you dress it up. I'll bet that people who drive the Marquis and Crown Vic's really wanted a Town Car. It probably secretly eats them up every time they pull up next to a Town Car at the red light.
I just bought a 1993 town car executive, with 154,000 miles and I love this car, it is more powerful then my previous car, which is 2002 chrysler concorde limited.

Other than the air suspension being a bit touchy these cars do not suffer from terribly unreliable transmissions, where you got this from is beyond me.

The DTS is a pretty nice car, but has a poor setup having front wheel drive with a transversely mounted v8, and if its anything like the Northstar equipped Devilles of the past, having a high tech engine and a bunch of gadgets isn't going to mean anything if the car is in the shop constantly for repairs.

And there you have it, folks!! Also, the touch-screen debit readers at the grocery store are better than the "old" push-button ones, and LED warning lights on school buses are much better than incandescent ones. After all, they're HIGH TECH!!

People like the Lincoln Town Car for what it is... a very comfortable, very roomy SIX PASSENGER AMERICAN luxury car.
What's that, you ask? It's what people aspired to own before everyone decided that a car isn't worth the value of its sheet metal unless it's sporty, an import, or very closely styled after one. We're comparing apples and pencils here. The Town Car is built to carry six people in comfort... this means a very spacious interior, comfortable seating, functional climate control systems, and (GASP!!) a front bench seat and a smooth ride!! Not to mention that this car performs extremely well in the crash tests, and can carry just as much cargo, and more passengers, than a Chevy Trailblazer or a Ford Explorer. For you environmentalists out there, you'll also find it notable that the Town Car does so while producing far less emissions. This is because cars are subject to stricter emission requirements than "light trucks".
Do I like sports cars? Yes. One is sitting in my driveway. Parked behind it is a Buick LeSabre.
I own a 2003 Lincoln Town Car, and yes I do agree that it is the best luxury car on the road today. That is including anything from Mercedes, Lexus or BMW and yes yes Cadillac. I recently rented a 2007 Cadillac and there is no comparison to the Town Car. The Lincoln has much more room and a lot better put together than the Caddy and better looking by far. If Ford does away with this awesome car then they need their heads examined!!! That would be another stupid move that Ford has made again. I really hope that they listen to the consumer and KEEP THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR IN PRODUCTION FOREVER!!! If they do do away with it then there is nothing out there to replace it. Hope they listen..
I have a 2002 Lincoln Town Car Signature that is in showroom conditions. I had 1986, 1988, 1992, 1996, and now a 2002. Every year got better, but this one is something to brag about. Lincoln is the best riding luxury car that you will ever find. My 2002 gives you showroom looks because of its beautiful Pearl Blue exterior, Light Parchment interior, full rag top (blue) with gold buttons, power moon roof, heated power seat, automatic level ride, adjustable foot pedals, memory seats, traction control, anti-lock braking, driver/passenger/side air bags Alpine AM/FM/Tape 6 CD changer, phone system, chrome Lincoln rims, chrome fender trim, chrome rocker panel, and Vogue Tyres. For total comfort, safety, performance and style, it is and always will be the Lincoln Town Car. And guess what? 80,000 miles with no problems. Its only been back to the dealership for oil changes and State inspection.
Bought a 2000 town car with 33,500 miles and liked it for about a year when the transmission went bad costing $1800 to replace. Only 6 months later the air blower in dash went bad costing $1100 to repair. Now at 101,000 miles I'm told I need an intake manifold at a cost of $1200. Missed the manifold extended warranty. Nice comfortable ride? Yes, but will never buy a ford or lincoln product again. Ask me if I'm just a little annoyed?
I bought a 1998 LTC Cartier which is in mint condition in spite of 95,000 miles. A beautiful ride and a pleasure to drive. Obviously some cars are better kept than others. But this model is one of the best made cars in the US. The loyal following and the few issues they have is a clear indicator of it's quality. True, it's shy on gadgets. But also fewer things to break.
Above this comment are a few owners who were not pleased, but they only add up to a very very small percentage. Do some research and you'll see.
The front passenger floor had a water leak from a dried out rubber seal for the air vent under the hood. It took me an hour on Google to find the easy fix - clear silicon and a lazy 45 minutes to get to and replace the seal. Two plastic screws, five 8mm screws and two 11mm nuts. (Why metric I don't know.)
A Lincoln dealer tried to make me feel bad for not buying his more expensive car off his lot by attempting to scare me about the $2500 repairs I would probably need on the shocks. Turns out the after market sells the parts with lifetime warranty for a couple hundred dollars and two to three hours of work. Best of all there's nothing wrong with the shocks! :)
I rented a LTC for a week last year and it really impressed me. I used to dislike Lincoln (and love Cadillac). But after that week I changed my mind about Lincoln and after trying a dozen cars and reading reviews (like these) for a couple of weeks I decided to buy one and, well, I love this car.
More gadgets would be nice, and I'll end up adding a few myself but did I tell you I really love this car?
I own a 2004 Town Car. This is the Most Luxurious and smoothest riding car that I have owned. I also bought it used, ($19,000). It really doesn't bother me that the Town Car does not retain it's resale value. That's good for me! I don't intend on selling this car, ever. I have always wanted a Town Car while growing up. Now I have one and I have to say.. This is the sexiest car I have ever owned. I added "Wood dash trim", Factory fog lights and all of the chrome that I could find. It is not pimped, but just looks sexy. On the other hand, being an Italian from NY and with a big trunk on this car, nobody ever messes with me.
