The transmission was rebuilt at 124,000 miles.
My exhaust system, including catalytic converter has been replaced.
My starter was replaced twice.
My alternator and radiator have also been replaced.
Most recently, the car was involved in an accident. It sustained front-end damage, but still runs and drives perfectly.
This car is incredibly durable and rugged.
It just doesn't know when to quit.
It is the best used car I ever bought for $1,800.
Good gas mileage on long trips--22 mpg.
Great review for a great car. If you decide to sell, please email me at jaguarhop@yahoo.com with price and location.
I have a 1984 with 56k miles in almost mint shape (was grandpa's), just hit a deer and took a piece of the grill out, but you are right the car is almost like a good farm tractor it may not be fast or hot looking, but it keeps on chugging along. deer did not even phase the bumper and went underneath the car, maybe a small deer, but still a slamming that would have demolished todays cars for sure. Wife thinks that it is an old car so it must be junk, well beyond silver spoon comments like that I really appreciate this car and hope to keep it going as long as I can. Running synthetic oil in her now to improve my chances of survival.
I have a 1985 Marquis. I got it a little over 6 months ago for $495 as I needed a decent car that would get me around for about a year. well needless to say it is the best used car buy I have ever had. The car still has less than 100k; I bought it at 88.6k and now its at 98.6k. The only work I have had to do is change the fuel filter and it is due for a tune up. Never a problem and it has a pretty quick pick up when you hit the gas, for an older car. I expect it to last well over 100k and I couldn't be more pleased with it. Excellent deal!!!
At the risk of just duplicating what's been said...I've owned well over 50 cars in a lot of years of driving, and my 85 Marquis with a six cyl and three-speed auto was the most comfortable, best driving, most durable of all of them. I paid $300 for it at 95,000 miles and drove it to 132,000. Donated it because I just needed a car with working a/c to use for work and to replace the whole system was just too expensive. I'm looking for another one!
