When I first bought the car it had problems starting in the cold.
I took it for a regular service not long after that. Mechanic says it has been reconditioned before, but the head gasket was leaking, with rattling timing chain. The front CV joints were also in bad shape.
All in all, it costs 1700 AUD to fix.
Very comfy car that can seat "longer" legs behind. Great suspension, good airconditioning as well as very light power steering. The car's low acceleration and prodigous torque means a loser in the red lights. Roof fabric comes off easily.
I've seen other similar magnas, like mine has a problem with rusts on the doors. Water tends to collect there.
Carby models are very thirsty if the engine is not properly maintained or has timing problems.
Its best to bring it to your local mechanic to have a thorough check before consider buying one!
As in all cars it says in the owners manual to get a pin of something and clean the drainage holes out reguarly otherwise the water collects in there.
Actually with the magna, and other Mitsubishi models, the factory had an insistence on putting rubber drain plugs in the metal drain holes in the doors. I used to work for a Mitsubishi dealer and we always pulled them out before delivering a new car, as if left in, they cause dust and muck to build up and trap the moisture in. If you've got a Mitsi with rubber plugs in your doors' drainholes, take them out if you intend to keep it for a long time. Also, I cannot say enough about the virtues of keeping your car clean and rustproofing from new.
