The Explorer has served me well. Always starts and runs flawlessly.
It seems to be generally very well constructed and is a comfortable and practical car to own. It makes at great family vehicle as there is ample space for kids and luggage.
The engine is quite a powerhouse and makes the Explorer fairly swift for such a large heavy vehicle. It is heavy on fuel though: I get 20mpg.
Lots of standard equipment including air conditioning (very welcome!), and it is a real looker with chrome alloy wheels and beautiful dark green paint finish. The North Face version has a body coloured grille and bumpers also, so looks less gaudy than the chrome trimmed XLT. It looks better for it in my opinion.
Very surefooted in bad road conditions. It's great in the snow and is a fantastic vehicle for towing.
A much better car than the old Spanish built Maverick 4x4.
I was getting around 17mpg (combined with some urban) with my North Face. I had it converted to LPG and get around 14mpg on fuel which cost half the price of petrol and is now fairly easy to obtain (a good map is available showing the stations). Acceleration is more pleasant when the cost is halved and the emissions more than halved.
