1987 Land Rover 90 D from Netherlands - Comments

"Look after it and it serves you a lifetime"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Timing belt spanner broken, gearbox overhauled, propshafts replaced, rear crossmember and front bulkhead terribly rusted (and replaced), front brake discs replaced, exhaust, clutch plate, shock absorbers.

General comments?

Great fun to own and drive. Goes anywhere, anytime, anyweather, any road condition, therefore I think it is a perfect holiday and everyday vehicle. Very reliable, it seldom did let me down despite its age. Can tow up to 4000 kg, but Dutch law restricts it to 3500 kg. Capable of very high mileages and is very long lasting due to the strong chassis and easy to replace panelling. I started driving in 2CV's so I'm used to leaks and wind in the car.....

Not really a comment, but an update. The car is now approaching the 500.000 km mark on the clock -still with the original engine, which I think is unbelievable high. It still doesn't need extra oil between services, and runs quite smooth. It needed a new steering box recently because I had a little trouble keeping it between the lines. And I obtained a 'new' rear door; the old one is completely rotten.
