2001 Nissan Almera SE+ from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A high value low cost gem of a car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Noisy door locking solenoid at 20000 miles.

General comments?

This is the first car I have ever owned on which everything works as it is meant to.

Unlike all my previous cars except one this car does not leak.

The car has every accessory that a reasonable owner could possibly want and this for considerably less money than its competitors.

The driving position is perfect and has never given me backache.

It behaves impeccably in town.

On the motorway it goes like a rocket and is almost completely unaffected by strong winds.

The doors open very widely and my disabled father in law has no problems getting in and out of it unlike my brother in law's German limousine.

I cannot understand why these cars get such a poor press.

I intend to keep mine until it or I fall to bits.

They get a poor press because motoring journalist know nothing about real-life cars, nor do they have to pay for the cars they run. My wife's Almera has been simply the best car we've ever had:No faults, well equiped and pleasant understated drive. Your Almera won't be falling to bits for a long time!

This is an update on the report I wrote in 2004 on my 2001 1.8 SE+. The car has now covered 63K miles and its performance remains as new. Nothing has gone wrong with it and the usual suspects (original battery, exhaust and clutch) remain working perfectly. The only replacement parts have been tires, brake pads and disks. I have budgeted for a new car in 2 years time but I have grown so fond of the Almera that I may just have to keep it and bequeath it to my children.
