I have replaced about the whole front steering/suspensions system. The original parts had lasted about 33 years.
Brakes
that's about it.
I bought my bus for $400US after having sat in a field for about four years. It has been my in town daily driver for about two years with relatively little trouble. The VW does require maintenance as we all know, but rarely is it something that one cannot fix.
It has never left me stranded, all problems sort of let you know and there is a certain intelligent window of time in which you have to fix them.
I love my bus. Despite the stereotype, they are really good cars. I think if people anyone else had such a cult following and decided to keep some certain vehicle on the road over 30 years, one might say the same about them. I don't think any new car could last this long.
This is a good review, I just inherited this same model from my Aunt the other day and I'm going to have to completely redo the whole bus (including the engine which was stolen a couple years ago) and I was wondering if you know of a website that I can go to for old parts.
I'm not going to be able to get started on it yet because I will need several more paychecks before I can afford a new engine or any of the supplies that I will need.
If anyone could give me some information about the bus it would be greatly appreciated.
