When the car is cold, and has not been driven over night, it idles funny.
Had to change rear main seal (the seal between gearbox and engine)
Considering that I originally am from Europe, I always liked calibra's, and that was the reason for getting one.
Everything about the car is excellent, and as some people have said, for the money, you definitelly get your moneys worth. It has 110 Kw stock, and is very quick, its made for German autobahns (I had it on 4000 revs, in 5th gear, sitting on 165 kms, and the red line is 6750, and when the revs are on the 3000, in the same gear, car sits on 100, 110kms...you can figure out the rest)
The main thing y I wanted to make this review is following: people in this country like this car, but are afraid of it because no one knows enough about it. I have done my research, plus I have my own European mechanic, that knows his stuff, and I believe that it is easier for me that for some of you people out there.
Therefore for all you people out there, if you have any questions about the car, ill be glad to help, in case you need it. Or in case you don't feel like going through all the hassle, 2 main things you have to consider when buying calibra's:
1) Make sure it has more than 130000 on the clock, or under 80000...the reason being timing belt... it has to be changed at 100000, and it is a capital must... otherwise if it snaps, minimum the repairs will cost are AU$1800
2) If buying turbo 4x4, change transmission oil to 80/90 gear oil, to prevent the gearbox from failing on you.
Could you tell me that is the maintenance fee for this car expensive?
I am going to buy a 92 Calibra, 115,000 kms, is the timing belt need to change soon?and how much does it cost in Australia?
How much does the timing belt cost in AUS$ because I am replacing the crank angle sensor and I may aswell do the timing belt at the same time I think coz they have to take it off neway so if you could tell me how much the belt costs that would be good.
Hi.
I'm about to buy a 92 Calibra and its got 200,000k's on the clock, any known issues around there?
Thanks.
Hey,
love your little review on 92 calibra's, I was wondering
if theres any known issues with the 1996 V6 (2.5litre)
it seems nice and all. it has 113000 k's
i haven't bought it yet, but most likely will.
Thanks.
Hi. I have just bought a 92 manual calibra. Just wondering if you have heard of this model having problems with the engine cutting out after a certain period of running time? It seems to happen once the engine is at a certain temperature. If the car sits for 15 minutes it will start again and run for about 1 5 minutes before cutting off again. Mechanics can't find the problem to easily as there is not much information about the calibras...
Any help would be appreciated. You could reply to shortman_no1@hotmail.com.
Thank You.
I had the same problem (different model) Turns out the automatic thermo fan was wired backwards causing the engine to over heat. Also not picked up by my mechanic.
I have a 92 for cylinder calibra with a blown gear box estimated by mechanic to cost around $3,000 to replace if one could be found and fitted.
A lot of money, can any one help with any suggestions or places where a gear box could be purchased for a lot less than $2,000 which is the only one I can find so far?
Does anything else fit?or don't go down that road. The mechanic said a rebuild would be very simular in price.
PS I live in NSW Central Coast area.
Hey.
My name is Joy and live in Cooktown. My boyfriend recently brought a 92 Holden Calibra. How much does a new clutch cable cost? And also would I be able to take it into an roof lining shop to get the roof lining fixed? It is falling down and makes it hard to see when reversing..
Thank you so much..
