I purchased the car for $150. All it needed was a head gasket, and a few basic parts (passenger mirror, blinker light and cover, minor bodywork).
The head gasket went at around 156,000 miles. It was replaced with a cheap head gasket, and proceeded to fail again at 160,000 miles. This time, it was replaced with a higher quality gasket and runs beautifully.
The bottoms of the doors and the tailgate are beginning to rust, but part of that is due to excessive winter road salt (I live in Buffalo, NY). Nothing that a little body filler and spray paint can't take care of.
This car has been great to me. It shifts well, and has a lot of pep behind the gas pedal. It has been incredibly reliable.
The interior is very roomy and the controls on the panel are easily accessible. All around, the best $150 I have ever spent.
I know what you mean. I bought one a couple of years ago & 2 months after the motor went in it. I sold it last summer & I regretted it ever since!!!It was a good car!
