Rear Brakes went at 72,000
Wiper Motor Went at 68,000
Intake Manifold blew at 80,000
Oxygen Sensors went at 75,000
Front brakes went at 70,000
water pump blew at 71,000.
Except for the usual car wear problems, the blowing of the lower intake manifold gets me angry. Went to the Chevy dealer to procure an estimate for repairs, or cost of parts in case I tried to tackle it myself, I was amazed at the "so matter of fact" attitude that I got from the mechanics on the blowing of the intake manifold. It was basically, "oh yeah, we do about a hundred of these a week". A hundred a week? That's no normal engine wear in my book, that is an all out defect that should be a recall. Well, I'm attempting to do it myself. It looks like a straight forward job, but a back breaker.
My 1996 Lumina Sedan is at the garage right now for repair of the lower intake manifold. When I took it to the garage they said this is very common for this vehicle.
My intake manifold gasket started leaking around 80,000 miles as well. This is very common. GM has redesigned the gasket for these motors 3 times and they are still prone to leaks. Mine leaks very slowly though, and I am now approaching 110,000 miles without replacing it. Still runs very well amazingly.
