Usual consumables - still on original clutch, exhaust etc.
Heater blower resistor (fan only working on speed 4) - cheap and simply replaced.
Other than that, nothing whatsoever.
For a 1.4 the car is responsive, relatively engaging to drive and comfortable enough to cruise in all day! Returns on average 42mpg at 75mph and doesn't suffer overly on town runs.
The pitch adjustable driver's seat and height adjustable steering column makes for a comfortable driving position, all controls are within easy reach and instinctively placed. Rear leg room is somewhat lacking, but 2/3rds split bench seat is comfortable enough and practical for extending boot space without losing available seats.
All driving controls are very light, the power steering feels slightly over assisted, but the positive brakes and light clutch make up for it. Minimal understeer until really provoked, but then again in it's 1.4 guise it was never designed for hard driving!
The car appears very well made, suffers none of the creaks usually associated with a 10 year old car, the seats remain supportive and the material is not showing any signs of wear.
Lots of electrical toys, the sunroof doesn't encroach on front seat headroom and everything works as new.
Fingers crossed with continued regular oil changes, the chain cam driven engine will continue to return reliable, smile inducing motoring! Small amount of surface corrosion in the rear sills to catch, but other than that, no foreseeable problems.
Have to agree with you about the sunny. Great reliable car. The only problem I have is a non working driver side back window and a slight rattle coming from the front of the exhaust when starting up from cold. Anyone know about this?
Hi I agree with everything you've said about the Sunny, even down to the heater fan only working on 4!! How did you sort that out? I tried resolving it with Nissan and haven't got anywhere as yet :S.
Hello.
I spent ages taking the dash apart as I though it must be behind the slider control, but it isn't. Nissan refer to it as a rheostat - I think it was about £30 from memory and pretty easy to fit if you don't mind lying upside down on the passenger side for half an hour or so. It was obviously a design fault judging by how common the problem is.
Had the window problem too on the drivers door which makes it hard at toll bridges. Simply replaced the motor with one from the rear door as they cost more than the car's worth. Again it took a bit of time, but was pleased with the result even if the rear seat passengers weren't.
Mine has done about 120k and I actually like driving it although I have a Golf and a 328i as well. I guess it's because there's not a lot to lose. It's surprising how well this car has lasted, everything original and not a speck if rust.
Best wishes.
Andrew.

I have had a problem with the driver's side window on my 1994 Nissan Sunny as well. WD-40 on the window's working parts seems to have worked well.
Overall, my Sunny rocks. US$1,500, and it had custom exhaust, custom alloy wheels (195/50-15), and only 86,000 kilometers on the odometer. Nice!
Fast, good handling, and good gas mileage too. What more can you ask for?
