"Poor unregcognized design flaws"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car is a 6 speed short shift manual transmission, the 1-2 shift grinds, but the dealer has classified this a 'normal' notchy or ratchety shift. My transmission was replaced due to the 'normal' shifting problems which destroyed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. The new transmission, now with 200 miles on it, has the exact same problem as before, but also has a non-engaging 3rd gear pop out issue which the dealer refuses to acknowledge.

The 2002 and 2003 RSX Type-S models have all been built with this design flaw. Acura will not extend the trans warranty or recall the lemons.

General comments?

Everything else about the RSX is impeccable, unfortunatly without a reliable transmission, the car is worthless.

I have an RSX-s and I can say that the gears do not shift as smoothly as desired between 1st-2nd-3rd, but I think this is due to the short shift transmission. I do not think it poses a problem to the transmission. I might be wrong as I only have 12 000kms.

Lease a 2003 RSX Type S, 6 Speed.

My Lemon Law Arbitration Hearing is scheduled for Nov, 2004.

I am disgusted by Acura's constant excuses, and lack of adequate results.

I hope the Lemon Law hearing is the end of the road for this Acura adventure.

Not sure what these transmission comments are about, but my 2002 RSX is just fine. Must be a Type-S problem?

Yes it seems to only happen to the type-s.

But I told the dealer about my problem, he said he made minor adjustments, that was 3 months ago.

I haven' t had that problem since.

I have a 2002 rsx type-s, having problems with my transission. this happened to me twice-when I am at high rpm my 4th gear acts like its another neutral. on 3rd gear at 7000rpm when I shift to 4th it just keeps reving like I am on neutral.

02 RSX-S transmission problems.

I have a 02 type S and have had transmission problems that started 6 months after I purchased it. So far, they have replaced the clutch master cylinder, pressure/friction plates, all synchros, and the exhaust gasket. The dealership is alleging that constant racing is the cause of the problem. My RSX is completely stock, I have raced occasionally, but mostly I drive it to work and back. I'm at the end of my warranty now, and am having worse problems with the transmission than I had before. I am having to fight with Acura to do anything. I sent them a certified letter detailing every problem I had, we'll see what happens.

Concerning in particular the previous comment, why did your dealership replace an exhaust gasket? That has absolutely nothing to do with your transmission, nor does any component of your exhaust system have to be removed for access to the transmission since unlike the earlier Hondas, the K20A2/A3s spin opposite placing the exhaust behind the engine. Also, especially for having a warranty ending soon, why not go to somewhere other than a dealership? Dealerships almost always charge a great deal more than even MSRP for the parts, on top of outrageous labor rates. This goes for all dealerships. Personally, if I find them only useful if there's a part I cannot find from another source (OEM of course) or I cannot get from my own company (IMC) which, trust me, everyone pays worlds more for the parts than what they're worth. Haven't seen a fix for the trans prob. though, still hunting for that.

I recently purchased a 2002 Acura RSX Type S, and after only 2 weeks, my second gear is toast. The synchronizers, which the dealer can't even garauntee is the problem, are going to be replaced. I'm looking for stronger parts to rebuild the transmission myself. If anyone could reply back with suggestions or anything at all, it would be greatly apprecciated. Bottom line, the six speed transmission could be great, but there is a serious design flaw. Everyone I talk to has the same problems with there transmission. Acura, which I am dissapointed to say being very loyal to there name, is not owning up to the problem.

I have a rsx type s n guess what I have the same prob. when I shift from 1st to 2nd I put it in the gear it grinds n rpm just go up like being in neutral. I never want it to take it to acura cuz I know they gonna say its the way you drive that's there excuse 4 everything. when I was replaceing my clutch I got a limited slip also so when we got my case apart I saw my gears looked brand new n everything else did. so I was confused I don't know whats wrong with it I put stage 3 clutch from clutch masters it feels goood as hell n 8 pounds flywheel feels really good, but I still have the same prob with my sec gear only sec gear. guys that have prob with ur other gears try putting different trans. fluid royal purple. is really good. I know this don't have nothing to do with tans prob. but run red line oil in ur engine it runs so much smoother I promise after I got it once that's all I'm using now.. my friend has a s2000 first gen 02. n his sec gear grinds tooo. but it goes in. hopefully somebody has an answer to this prob..

I have an 03 RSX Type S and I have a transmission problem. My 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears grind when I shift. Sometimes the 3rd gear pops out or seems like it's in neutral when I shift. Also when I press the clutch I can hear a noise.

I bought this car used, so I don't know if the previous owner messed up the transmission, or is it a common problem for 6 speed transmissions?

I have an Acura RSX Type-S that's like my girlfriend, but the only problem is that something is wrong with the tranny! When I switch to second gear, it pops it right back unless the RPMs are low enough; I really don't know what the hell?!

Yea I have a 2002 Acura RSX Type S, and my second gear syncro is broken; it clicks between two and four thousand rpms. I just switched to Acura and I'm not used to working on them, so how big of a pain is it to replace that?

Does anybody know if the 2005-2006 Acura RSX Type-S have any problems?

I have same problem as everybody else; 1st and 2nd gear grinding. The other gears are fine. Can also feel tranny moving underneath the car. The dealer rebuilt it and it is still grinding; nothing but excuses I can't believe it.

I previously owned an Integra 5 speed. 200000k and not one tranny problem. I am no longer a loyal customer; very mad and disappointed. BMW is next.
