1994 Dodge Intrepid ES from North America - Comments

"Powerful and really nice when tricked out with all the options!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

False alarm to the "Message Center" from the washer fluid level sensor. Haven't had it checked yet, I removed the bulb in the message center temporarily until I can take it in.

I broke the power antenna in an un-attended car wash, dealer had the part in stock and INSTALLED IT FOR FREE (!!), while I was paying for the part.

"Check Engine" light is coming on so I will take it for a service soon. It does go off for a period of time before it reminds me again.

General comments?

This car is CLEAN and very well maintained from an appearance standpoint, I have no mechanical history. It seems that it was garaged all the time and never driven in the rain (?) One previous owner (single/female). I purchased it for $7995.00 which is the mean average of retail/trade-in Blue Book values, so I felt the price was fair. I am not sure what color it is. It is the goldish-greenish-silverish depending on where you're standing and the lighting conditions. It has EVERY stock option that was available including the painted and clear-coated aluminum alloys. I am extremely pleased with this car.

The color you are describing is "chargold", available from 1995-1997. Have you had no problems with front-end creaks and groans??

You just haven't had the car long enough. You'll lose the tranny and half the steering parts before you hit 100k. Never fails.

I owned this car for about 50000 miles and had no major problems. I think some of the people who wrote comments here are anti-Chrysler foreign car owners who think they know it all!!!

We own a 1994 Intrepid ES with the 3.5L engine and alloy wheels (chargold paint). The car wasn't that awful, it's past the 100,000 mile mark. It's only recently had a high number of repairs, but so far the only repeated problem was the transmission (only once did it have to be replaced) and sensors. I think sometimes the problem is your dealer or wherever your getting it repaired. We use Fitzgerald Mall (the dealer name we bought it from) and have used two of their outlets. It seems that after getting it serviced at the second one (the closer one) that we started having more problems than before. I suggest getting a dealer to do diagnostics and taking it to another place (check with other people first about the reputation) and get them to fix it if you want to save money, since you end up paying $1000 (including parts and labor) for a stupidly cheap jobs. Also, when you are describing the problems with the car, try to be more specific. You can't just say, "I hear a rattling sound" because that could be any number of the many parts in the car shaking. The dealer may find some 'possible cause' and fix it, but it doesn't mean that's what the actual cause was. Also, sometimes the problem is the way people treat the car, we've owned this same car since the year it came out. If you have it well kept (rather than waiting till you have 50 problems with the car) this car will treat you better than the average ratings say. In addition, if you have problems where the dealer can't figure out the problem, then maybe you need to again take it to another place, and if they can't figure it out, then you probably have a defective car (they do exist, and can sometimes be very difficult to fix).

I believe this car comfort wise is EXTREMELY good compared to other cars. Unless you actually like feeling like there is only aluminum foil between you in the drivers seat and the outside air. And what I don't understand is how people say that the road noise is "loud" in this car. This car seems a lot quieter inside than a lot of other cars of comparable prices. If you're hearing road noise and don't like it, CLOSE THE WINDOW!

I own a 1994 dodge shadow with 134,000 miles. The front end had been creaking and making noises way before the 100,000 mark, Now something is rattling in the front end big time. Has anyone else owned this car and had the same problem? I will never buy another dodge ever again.
