Nothing has gone wrong with this little car except that the silly screw that hold the driver's side sun visor keeps popping out.
OK, this is a good LITTLE vehicle overall, but there are some issued.
I have the four cylinder and there isn't much power - even with that little power button punched!
The seats are not the most comfortable for my aging bottom, and I would really like to have a console.
The biggest problem that I have is that this boxy vehicle cannot handle curves. I knew that going in, and I think my Honda Accord really spoiled me, but sometimes it is flat out scary. Especially if it has been raining.
I also have rear wheel anti-lock brakes. The first time they deployed the front end swung like a pendulum. Scared me half to death.
What I really found interesting is that the Honda & Toyota versions are all manufactured at the same place. The only difference, besides the increades price, are some basic exterior designs.
I just had my 30,000 mile check-up.
$400!!! Ouch!
Worth what I paid for it, but if I stay with a Mini-SUV I will opt for the six cylinder.
The Tracker is much better than a toyota rav4 or a honda crv, these two cars are just cars with no frame, every thing
is put together with glue and tape. They are not off road vehicles.
I work in a body shop and you should see the rav4/crv,
you pay lots of money for nothing.
On the Trackers - have a 2 speed transfer case for the 4WD,
body on frame construction and they can be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground, behind a big motorhome when you go camping with out adding up any tow miles on the Tracker a big +.
Look, if you want a car, buy a crv or a rav4 or you can make your own with paper and glue!!
They money is paid for dependability and drive-ability in everyday conditions, this person wants something to drive, not to take offroad on the back-trails... Honda's and Toyota's are more dependable, and their resale values stay high as years pass, unlike the tracker. Yes their interiors and exteriors aren't exactly bulletproof, but the fact remains in 10 years they'll be running strong while the Tracker will be in the junkyard.
Well..in Japan.. this is a Suzuki, and Suzuki is well recognized as a good auto.. just as good as Honda and Toyota. I prefer a full frame vehicle, it will take a lot more punishment than unibody anytime.. especially in any impact situation. And I fully disagree with you on reliability also..Suzuki's reputation is nearly as high as Toyotas in Japan for quality, and reliability. Just because it says Chevy on it it does not mean its built by Chevy..it's a Suzuki. And this little thing has one BIG advantage.. it runs fine on the road.. and when needed.. it will climb a tree.. and rocks..and hills.. something a unibody rav 4 can try..hahaha..until the body flexes and the unibody welds break!
I have to disagree with one of the previous comments about the Trackers reliability I have owned three of them since they were introduced in 1989 as a Geo and all three of them have been very reliable. The 1994 Tracker has 268,000 miles on the original engine and transmission and still runs fairly well. The latest one is a 2001 with 103,000 trouble free miles. I'm not saying the Toyota and Honda are not good cars I'm just saying the Tracker is just as good.. mechanical wise anyway.
On reliability - just went over 250,000 miles on my '91, have owned it for 5 years, most reliable & cheap to run vehicle I ever owned. This thing is like the energizer bunny. Japanese engineering at it's best, no matter what the name tag says. Will be buying a second one soon, pre-99 model.
Toyota is 10X what Suzuki is... "Oh at least is has a full frame!" Hey guess what guys, My uni-body Jeep has twice the off road capability a tracker has... I know, my buddies wife has one and when his lifted bronco is getting work he brings the tracker. Guess what pulls him out when he is stuck? A uni bodied Jeep. I'll take a Toyota 4Runner or Rav4 any day of the week... As far as Honda... Well Toyota has been building 4WD's since the 60's... Honda? Nope, they don't know what they are doing...
