1987 Ford Ranger XLT from North America - Comments

"It all depends on how your 87 Ranger is treated"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Many things have gone wrong with my Ranger. The motor had to be replaced because of a crank problem, the transmission had to be replaced because of a bearing problem, and the clutch, power steering pump, computer and fuel pump have all had to be replaced.

General comments?

Keeping in mind that the truck was made in 1987, it is natural that it will have problems. However, sometimes I wish that I had a Toyota instead of a Ford.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I also have an 87 ranger. I bought it last year for $2700. Since then I've got over $1500 worth of work done to it. Things like the water pump, starter, clutch, hubs, brakes, brake calipers, and rear cylinders have all been replaced, and just when you think you've fixed everything something else goes wrong. My most recent problem started just this week, I've got a universal joint going out in the rear drive shaft. The truck does have except millage, but after talking to certain people I've found that the truck actually has about 274000 miles on it. I'm really glad that the motor and transmission haven't gone out yet! I hope that it will last at least one more year without costing too much money!
