At 55,000 miles the gas sensor quit working.
At 65,000 miles the crank sensor had to be replaced.
At 75,000 miles began consuming excess oil.
Plus 3 recalls for things I do not remember at this time.
For the first 4 years and 55k miles I loved my '99 Rodeo LS and didn't have a bit of trouble with it. It handled well, had good pickup, lots of cargo room... everything I had hoped for.
Then the problems began. The gas sensor quit working and it will be approx $400 for the repair, so for the last 1.5 yrs I have been relying on my trip tachometer to tell me when I need to refuel.
Then the crank sensor went out and had to be replaced. It took the dealership garage 3 days to figure out the problem!
Finally, like I have seen from so many other owners, it began consuming excess oil. Unfortunately, I did not realize until it was too late that the oil was bone dry (and just 5K miles since the last oil change, even though the owners manual states to have oil changes every 7500 miles.) I am currently shopping for a new engine, since I disintegrated the cam shaft from low oil.
This is the 3rd Isuzu I have owned and the only make auto I have driven since 1987 but I can now say that it will be my last due to the decrease in quality of the vehicle and the lack of responsiveness from the company.
I have similar problems with my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo.
I purchased it used in October 2003 with 84,000 miles. In April 2004 I had to replace the engine because of no oil. I had my oil changed every 3000 miles (or less since I owned the vehicle).
My fuel sensor also quit working. Upon fill up the gas guage shows a full tank, however, within 25 miles it's on empty and the fuel light flashes.
Also my ABS module went out.
All this and only within the first six months.
I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. I am so disappointed and turned off by Isuzu.
I also have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo LS that I bought with 5k miles on it in 2000. My gas sensor stopped working as well, at 75k miles I had to replace a cam in the engine, and now I al also shopping for a new engine. This vehicle was WELL maintained and Isuzu will do NOTHING to try and rectify this. I also own a 2002 Rodeo that has also had problems.
I will NEVER again buy another Isuzu.
I too had to replace my fuel sensor. Fortunately it went down while still under warranty. But then everything else started breaking also. It got to a point where I simply made a list of all of the problems and dropped it off at the dealership with the list and asked for them all to be tended to. This was when it was still under warranty.
Now, I am not under warranty and now my transmission is slipping.
I took it to a shop and they are saying that there is a plate underneath the truck and is rubbing the transmission causing it to leak. I have called many shops and they all say that this is bogus and that Izuzu is very poorly made. But it's kind of spilt milk for me, huh?
I also have a 99 Rodeo LS. Bought it used with 10K miles. It's been fine with the exception of... you guessed it... the fuel sensor. Now that the car is upwards of 90K miles, I'm not going to bother fixing. It's pretty annoying that Isuzu did not make this fuel senor issue a recall item. Might have saved them some customers.
Aha! So I'm not the only one with the fuel sensor problem. Also responded to ABS module recall, but ABS still doesn't work properly. Also been having probs with oil level lately (95k mls).
I have a 2002 rodeo and it has 102,00. The problem is that somehow the oil is consumed not even after 1000 mile oil change. Does anybody know why this happens?
