Nothing wrong at all. Clutch a little slippy when hot. Replaced front pads (10 min job). Small rust bumps on the bonnet. Nothing really at all.
This has to be the best car for the money. Cruise control, electric everything, sleeky sporty looking, very very good performance out of a 2.0i 16v (149bhp). Out performs all the boy racers at the lights. Handling is firm but smooth, probably due to a wide track. Could do with stiffer springs if you are up for it?
The build quality of the car is extremely good, you only have to have a closer look at the door and pillar to see what I mean. The driver's seat is a feat of engineering in itself, didn't know you could have that many adjustments, very good for my bad back. Plenty of rear passenger space, and how big is that boot, and then you can put the rear seats down!! All I can say is, if you get offered one, snap it up. I am definately buying a Mazda again.
My brother has the same car, only one year older than yours. I think that the car is extremley "cool", and beautiful to watch... This summer we had 240km/h on it...
I've had one of those for 8 months now and I'm extremely happy about my decision to buy it. My car also has that 2,0i DOCH engine & it will kick any BMW 320's ass anytime! (Life has proved it to be true...)
Love driving my '92 2.2 manual Coupe on the autobahn, acceleration from 140 km/h up to 192 km/h (ca 88 MPH up to 192 MPH) is incredible and I think that it outruns some six-cylinder car. 120 mph is top speed of my vehicle, just like written in my registration papers (not bad for 135.000 km or 84375 miles). Engine idle is somewhat high when cold (about 2000 RPM). Very good quality.

I was pleased to see there was such a sight for this kind of input and general talk. I have 6 mazda's 626 from 1989-1992. Three are running 3 are for parts. This is a car that should be sold new again. Unbelievable performance handling and all my electrical switches still work. Also I live in Ontario so have to deal with rust. Always undercoated. Hard to find a nice body down here as they are all rusted. May have to take a trip to the states to find myself a clean one. As far as I know the engines were 2.2 litres, but I've seen some write 2.0 litre, which was only in the earlier model 87 and older.
I had a 88 626 Turbo, 2.2L
I also live in Ontario.
The North American versions had 2.2L 12valve single overhead cams while the Europe cars had 2.0L 16 valve sohc.
Same horse power rating just different torque specs and all at a different rpm range.
I now own a 1996 Eagle Talon for the summer and a 2003 Civic that replaced my tired Mazda (360,000 original kms)
Out of all 3 cars...I'd still love to own my Mazda, however rust, age and kms have taken their toll.
I too own a BEAUTIFUL MAZDA 626, man those cars are the 'BOMB'. I live in the caribbean and it has a 2.0 turbo, runs like hell, no other japanese car comes close! MAZDA RULZ!!!

I had one a few years ago it was the best car I have ever owned I had it tuned to 180bhp... I had to sell it when I brought my house and I miss it so much...
Police caught me at 132mph at 2am and let me off cos they were so impressed with the car.
I own a 1983 626. It's great. I think I will keep it till it rusts away. This model will do zero to 100 K/PH in ten seconds. As far as non-turbo vehicles go that's good.
My 88 Mazda 626 Turbo was fast and fun to drive. The acceleration from standstill with the turbo kick was truly fun each and every time. Very pleasing to drive.
Oh, I had some problems with the car - I was glad I bought the extended warranty. After the warranty expired, the high cost of Mazda replacement parts was frustrating.
Took the car to 193,000 miles before the transmission went. Replaced with a junkyard one. At about 198,000 miles, started having problems with meeting state emission inspections. Eventually that was the car's downfall - I only had so much time for tinkering and spending on replacement parts. Because of that, and insurance costs, I donate the car to charity for the tax deduction. I would've looovvved to keep it as a play car. Sigh.
