Carburettor problem. The car ran terribly when we bought it. We tried two Nissan main dealers and were told that bad running is a 'characteristic' of Nissans with Hitachi carburettors and Catalytic Converters. We wrote to Nissan UK and they said there was nothing that could be done to fix it. In desparation we 'phoned the local Weber carburettor specialist near Skegness. We couldn't get a replacement carburettor but they said they'd have a go at adjusting our existing carb. The result? For £100 we now have a car that performs like a car should. Fuel economy is excellent and starting is perfect every time. We have covered 10,000 miles in a year in it and it is still as good as when it was fixed by the garage.
Moral of the story is: If you have a Nissan 100, Sunny or something similar with a 'carb.' and a 'cat.', don't let Nissan fob you off with stories of 'characteristics' - it's a fault and it can be fixed!!!
Phone number of weber specialist please.

Hi, I would like to know what they exactly have done to the carb. I live in Belgium and have the same problem. If you can describe me what they have done I would be able to tell my mechanic.
Thanks!
Have a nice day.

Yes, the old carburettor problem strikes again. I recently bought a 1992 ‘J’ REG 100NX with the targa top in good condition. The 88K miles on the clock was of little concern as the exhaust provided no need for concern, nor did the engine produce any worrying sounds. The only niggle was a misfire that I commented on, but dismissed as a tune-up job.
I contacted the local Nissan dealer and got the same £500 shock as the chap that made the first comment. Taking his advise I have been to a local carburettor chap and he has spotted that the original has been removed and replaced with a Weber unit. To my obvious surprise! Allegedly the real carburettors have some electronic do-hickeys that connect to the ECU to provide feedback/control. Without this the ECU doesn’t know what’s going on? The thing runs though (with a slight rough spot at 1500rpm), which started me thinking that Nissan may be inflating the truth?
I have been to a local Japanese spares centre about the problem and they do a service by means of changing the jet’s to a larger size?
I go to the local chap tomorrow to see what is what. If all is well I will come back and add the appropriate instructions.

The carburettor problem is not a problem after all. I have had the car in to the local chap and it is running like a dream. The only niggle is still a very slight misfire above 1500rpm. The chap say’s that he should be able to rectify this by changing the jets (see local Jap spares on earlier comment). Apart from that the car goes a treat.
The guy I took it to was glad that he had seen this change as he can now recommend a different course of action than changing the carb for the expensive ‘Nissan’ replacement.
The moral: Don’t believe all that the big boys say!
PS: I will post the relevant changes as and when I have all the details.

Could anyone give a garage in the south-east who could advise on the carb problem? I've just brought a 92 (J) 100 NX with 51k onthe clock & as expected from reading these reviews I have the same problem. Also phone number of a Weber dealer would be helpful as if the jobs easy I'll get my old man to sort it out. Email me on rivers_band@yahoo.co.uk I also think that a 100 NX owners club should be looked into if anyone has the time and willingness to sort it out :-)

Just acquired J reg 100NX, bodywork superb, engine sounds very sweet. one thing niggles me though - has no targa roof, does anyone know if many non-targa roof 100NX's were made? Will keep you updated on it's progress as it has pretty high mileage (118,000miles).
Regards S Marshall.
Thanks chaps for all your previous comments. I'm a female about to buy a 'J' high mileage nx. While test driving it I also noted that there was a fault which I put down to a need for a tune up or possibly fuel in the line (it's been standing idle for a few months apparently) So- off I'm going to my friendly local mechanic - Steve- and lets see what he's got to say about it all. I have to tell you all that I wouldn't even be taking it to him if I hadn't read your comments. Thanks. B x.
I have a 1992 Nissan 100 NX (Targa).
Can anyone tel me what Weber twin carburetor is adapted, if it needs special specifications or parts and where to buy it? I read somewhere that the right one was the 32/34 DMTL, but can't find anywhere. Thank you (mail to m.menezes@iol.pt)
