The engine started knocking at 40,000-miles.
We took it in and Lexus Replaced the engine for free under warranty. They gave us a brand new loaner.
The car has had oil changes on time and still failed. They said a part came loose in the engine and caused excessive wear and heat buildup.
The telescoping steering wheel became loose and had to be tightened.
The automatic climate control goes crazy sometimes and we have to turn the car off and restart it to make it calm down. Dealer can't find the problem.
Paint is dulling out way too fast.
Traction control must not work right as the car can't seem to take off well when the pavement is wet.
Many bulbs have burned out.
This is a very costly car that doesn't seem to be living up to what they promised.
Our Accord cost about one third of what this Lexus cost and held up much better.
Most everyone on our block drives a Lexus and seems to have some of the same problems. Not the engine though. The dealer told us that our engine failure is very odd.
I don't think we will be buying another one.
We are going to Acura or Lincoln this time.
I purchased a used 2001 LS430 for my wife in Nov 2003. It is the nicest driving vehicle we have ever driven including the ES430 and various SL models from Mercedes Benz. To date, the only maintenance is changing the oil and cleaning the vehicle. You must have purchased a lemon. Lexus "Keep up the great engineering."
We have a LS430 and have had not real problems.
2002 With 38,000-miles.
Only problem was fuel cap broke and a speaker went bad.
Weird, I bought that car and never had any problems with it. Its price/ quality erhalting is perfect. Maybe it's a mondaycar (just one in the thousand with everything wrong). Would I buy another one, never... I'm just in love with it.
I have a 2001 LS430 that I purchased new in 2000, traded a BMW 740iL for it and have never regretted it. I think you should try another as maybe you did get a bad one, but I can say nothing bad about it. Mercedes is the worst of all luxury cars for minor breaks and repairs that cost an arm and a leg. BMW's are better made vehicles, but still the maintenance will break you. I have not even had a light bulb blow out on the LS430...as close to perfection as a car can come especially with all the accoutrements.
I agree with the above. I have owned all sorts of luxury cars. My first was an 1985 Mercedes 300d. That was a great car never had any problems with that and I put almost 200,000 miles on that. It was in 1992 I heard Mercedes had lost all its quality and reliability so I decided to get a 1992 LS400. I never regretted that. In 1995 BMW released the new body styile of the 7 series. I just had to get one. Now that I would regret. So many problems, but luckily I still had the Lexus to drive. I then bought the new LS400 in 1995 also and love that one just as much as the first. I drove that, which I still have both LS, for 150,000 miles when in 2001 the new LS430 came out and I had to get one. I love this one the most. I'm a Lexus driver for Life and I recommend you be one to. You must have just got a lemon. My friend bought a 1998 ES300 and the engine went at 50,000 miles. Lexus payed for the motor and it ran like new. Lexus said it was their fault.
We are on our 3rd Lexus. Since I bought my wife her first GS 300 several years ago we have been hooked. We now own a LS 430. I had owned several luxury sedans and by far the Lexus 430 is the best riding most reliable automobile on the planet.
I mean it is such a pleasure to drive that I just get in and cruise while listening to a great sound system. Perhaps, as Murphy's law says you got a bad one.
