I've had chronic problems with the brakes. Replaced them and within a month they have worn down dramatically. They also make a real loud grinding noise. Transmission slips every now and then. Oil leaks from an unknown location, however it is thought to be leaking from the head gasket. When cold it has trouble accelerating. It burns oil more than any other vehicle I've ever owned. Engine makes a clicking noise every now and then.
I wouldn't advise anyone to purchase a 93 caravan. They cost a lot of money to own and are not very dependable. However they do have some things that are nice about them, including: comfortable seats, roomy, nice handling, and fast acceleration.
I don't understand why people don't look at consumer reports or online before buying anything from chrysler they are the worst for dependability and cost to own. Do some research before spending big $$$ on a lemon.
Actually, the 2005 Consumer Guide magazine has recommended quite a few of the Dodge and Chrysler vehicles as "Best Buys."
After reading hundreds of reports, I've come to the conclusion that the most contented bunch of car-owners are those with Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis sedans. And many report same car as their previous make.
They seem to be very reliable, almost trouble-free, and gas mileage is not too bad considering their size.
If you can buy a well-maintained low-mileage example for a good price, it's a better deal than a new anything else.
You need to be good at parking, though as they're a bit big.
2005 Consumer Guide?
They have their heads screwed on wrong.
Chrysler's have been notorious for making crappy 3 speed trannys, leaking, and burning oil engine, and for the 3 liter engine belt replacements.
There are many many little issues with them that make them troublesome.
The only reason Consumer guide says it's a best buy, is they test on conveience, confort, power, and accomodations. They do not test on durability, long term reliability, or how well vehicles hold up in long term..
I found this site while trying to find out what the clicking noise is under the hood. Our 93 has been a great van so far. It has over 158,000 miles on it.
