I never had to replace anything except for the speakers I blew.
The suspension would bottom out on any good size bump.
The engine would stall if it fell below 1000rpms.
This was my first car and I couldn't have had a better one.
It accelerated horribly, but handled great on the corners.
It may not have been a good race car or "cool" in this age of ricers, but it handled great off-road. I took it on old logging roads and trails that some people wouldn't go on without 4 wheel drive and it handled perfectly. There is a high body clearance and a good stock suspension compared to other cars. There is not another front wheel drive vehicle available that handles as well as this car off-road.
The only regret I have is not keeping this car. I dream about buying another some day to thrash on it some more.
Since When a 1984 Ford Tempo 2.3 4 Cylinder Automatic it is a Fun Car to Drive???
Even the 3.0 V6 it's not that fun. I know that because, recently I test Drove a 1994 Ford Tempo Sedan V6 and it was quite Sluggish for a V6.
I found the Tempo a Bland and Soggy car.
Sorry if you find it fun...
Because in my opinion the Ford Tempo it is a Boring and Loser Car.
If you want a Tempo with a bit of fun, get one with a manual. I had an 88 GL with the 5 speed, and it was fun to drive fast. It was pretty quick for an older Ford, I could get it to about 75 or higher in a quarter mile. If you want even more fun, try to find a Mercury Topaz XR5, it's a V6 with a 5 speed. Not too many of those made, so you'd be lucky to find one.
I Recently Test Drove on an 1992 Mercury Topaz XR5 V6 Manual and I hated it...
The Gearbox was very notchy and the engine is very sluggish.
The car is not fast at all!
By the way, the Handling is very poor. The car understeers to much and the suspension feels "floaty".
The ride is smooth, but somewhat wallowy.
Also the steering lacks in feel; At high speeds the Steering wheel becomes very light.
All in all, this wasn't exactly a Fun Car To Drive.
It was a Very Boring Car.
My Mercury Topaz has a 2.3L 4-cyl with an automatic, and it really flies off the line! The car corners beautifully, the acceleration is better than my dad's 2.4L Nissan, which has a manual. However, when you are being followed by that thing, it feels like you are being chased by a raccoon. The white license plate looks like front teeth, the black grille and trim around the headlights gives it the mask, the mirrors that are set far back on the doors look like ears, and it is gray.
