Exhaust gaskets frequently need attention (maybe my driving habits).
Blew the intercooler, but again, my driving habits coupled with running
high boost.
The usual Audi headliner sag.
I can sum it up simply by saying that everyone who has ever driven my car has fallen in love with it. It's got everything one could want: incredible performance (above 2800 rpm anyway, after the turbo spools up), luxury, looks and economy. On a recent trip through the Rocky Mountains I had the cruise set a 85 and it had no problem at all holding that speed effortlessly and all the while getting a honest 22 to 28 mpg. I've had many performance cars and none had the all around "guts"
of the Audi turbo Quattro. No matter what you ask of it, it does it effortlessly and quickly. It's just a matter of seconds from 70 to 130 and it's not even working hard. The ABS brings it to a halt just as quickly, although after 3 or 4 hard braking sessions out of the triple digit speeds and the smell of burning brakes should come as a warning subsequent braking is all, but wishful thinking. I suppose bigger brakes would help, but how often do you abuse your car that badly? I drive it "like I stole it" and very few cars can take that kind of abuse, especially over a long period of time!
I agree completely with this review. Although mine was a 1986. The roomiest most comfortable interior combined with performance that is a "sleeper". PLUS Quattro! This car will go almost anywhere under any conditions, fast!
I'm 6'4", but I could comfortably sit in any of the five seats, even with the driver's and front passenger's seats all the way back.
I was once driving on the highway late at night (at about 70mph) and came upon someone driving erratically (I thought maybe drunk) so I stepped on the gas to pass and get the hell away from him. I looked down at the speedo and was doing 135mph. I did not think I had enough time to do that. And it was just purring like a kitten.
I just bought mine a few months ago with only 90k on it for $1800. I must say it is the BEST investment I have ever made. I live in Buffalo, NY where its prone to the most harsh and erratic weather and it torques through anything and can even preform amazing. I agree with the comment above, I am also 6'4" and it caresses my butt.
I bought my Audi 500 cs quatro a year ago, it had 184k on it. I've driven it like it was stolen for a year now, it has 191K on it now it still runs like new, uses no oil, gets 29 miles to the gal., and still goes 150 MPH+, with 1.8 boost. This is the most fun car I have ever owned, I race a 10 sec IHRA bracket car on the weekends.Great station wagon!
