I have a 2001 Malibu. It has been OK car so far. I have read some negative reviews on this car so was wondering whether to keep this car. I have leased this car and was thinking about purchasing since I have invested so much on this car and have low mileage (41000km).
I had to replace the front brake pads at 25000km and that cost me a lot. The dealer said this is not covered under warranty. Oh well so much for the warranty.
Turn signal stopped working at about 30000km. It was replaced under warranty.
The coolant seems to be getting low.
Now I am noticing wheel sound from the front end of the car specially when driving on highway or turning right. It gets louder on highway. Could this be something to be concerned about?
Can this car last 150000km trouble free? If anyone has any comments please share whether I should buy this car or return it. I am thinking to purchase 2001 Ford Taurus if I return it.
You have the change to walk away from this car??? You'd be a fool not to. I would also be hesitant to go with the used Taurus also. If you can, take some time and look around and see if you can't find a new car with a good warranty.
This is a good car, just take good care of it and it will be good to you. (drive it nicely)
Stick with Chevrolet!! Ford has a much worse reputation (just look at all the Ford reviews on this website).
I just bought a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS and love it. It rides nice and handles great in the snow. Have had it for two weeks it has about 38000 miles on it. I have to say some of the negative comments did concern me at first, but then I tough to myself you always here the bad about something way more than you do the good.
As far as the Ford Taurus I would say go for that one to if you change your mind about the Malibu.
My wife has a Mercury Sable and it is also a 2001 and she loves it as well they pretty much come off of the same line until they get to a certain point.
Again keep in mind you always hear more bad about something than you do the good. Cars are mechanical and they require care and attention.
