1991 Buick LeSabre Custom from North America - Comments

"Unbelievable 4-door sedan"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Bearing started to howl, (replaced)

Camshaft position sensor broke.

Alternator replaced, water pump replaced.

Regularly scheduled maintenance.

General comments?

I have never driven a finer vehicle. This thing has perfect throttle response, outstanding driving feel for extended trips, and beautiful fit and finish. Can handle a load, and is capable of hauling a trailer.

This car has never seen the inside of a garage, and never been touched by anyone other than me and my great grandfather, from whom I purchased it from in '95. It is easy to work on, and very well engineered. As soon as the engine was broken in, nothing, but full synthetic Mobil 1 has been used for oil.

I get good gas mileage, considering this car weighs more than some full size pickups. I usually average about 20 in the city, and 25 on the expressway. On a real road, doing about 60 MPH I can easily get 30 mpg, obviously depending on driving habits.

All in all, I don't think I could ever be happier with a full size sedan, than I am with this one. It's a "must-consider" for those who are in the market.

GREAT ROAD CAR, averaging 25mpg @ 60mph...

Bought as a two-owner last June w/130K, why didn't I own a 91 Buick LeSabre Custom before? Very comfortable ride, good handling, extremely dependable! GREAT DELCO RADIO, considering its factory-installed...

FEW driving BLINDSPOTS, good field-of-vision on highway.

DOWN SIDE: POWER WINDOWS roll up slowly, but still work.

AIR CONDITIONING isn't as cold as it could be, but I replaced the original factory water pump and works better.

HARMONIC BALANCER went out at 136K, and now front oil transmission seal just starting to leak very slowly and AAMCO will replace it for $600 which I am planning to do.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER starting to go out, but car inspected until '06.

Am getting it repainted and small rust spots repaired this fall, along with undercoating...

OVERALL, this car has OUTSTANDING VALUE! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING ONE as long as you can find one in pristine shape like I did with this '91!

A correction should be noted in the text above: This vehicle has never seen the inside of a garage should read, "This vehicle has always been garage-kept." I should proofread my writing more often.

I fully agree, the '91 LeSabre is a great car. Have 136,000 miles on mine and it's still going strong. I've had minor issues along the way, but all are things you'd expect from a car this old. I used to have a '90 LeSabre just like this one and I loved that car so much that I bought the '91. The engines in these cars are legendary for their durability.

I just bought my Buick le sabre limited for $1500. It has beautiful leather seats and only 30,000 original miles. It's a brand new car. I am having trouble with over heating, not sure if its the gauge, the sensor, or what. I replace the radiator and the thermostat. If anyone has the same problem please let me know how you fixed it. jasrkerry91724@hotmail.com.

I have a '91 Le sabre. Great interior room plus decent gas mileage (close to 30M.P.G. on highway). What more could you ask for.

I have to admit, I bought this car for $1500 CAD as a bit of a joke. Three years later it's turned out to be the best car I've owned so far. (98 Pathfinder, 97 Maxima, 91 Integra, and a few others) We just had our first baby and are looking for something with a bit more room to haul 'stuff' back and forth to the cabin... I haven't test driven a new car with as nice of ride yet! What do I do? Almost 3000000 k's and hardly a hint of slowing down... awesome car! Over 30 mpg if I drive it nice and it starts all Canadian winter long. It's tough to find a NEW car as nice as this....enough said.

I am the original owner of a 91' Lasabre and currently have 195,000 K on the clock. Besides regular wear and tear items replaced (ie. starter/ battery/ struts) Problems I currently have are

1. Slow passenger window motor

2. front wheel bearing howling

3. Stuck antenna

4. Some rust spots (Never waxed the paint)

5. That's it!

Incredibly reliable car. Would take it anywhere.

Looking forward to 200K.

I have just been given a gift for graduation of college... my very first car... 1991 Buick LeSabre Custom... I came to this website looking for anything that may be wrong with my new and first car... Of course I need to get a new battery, but the drive home for the first time was like a magic carpet ride! There is 176,000 K miles on it and it is so quiet and rides very smooth. This website has helped me to learn that the things that are worng with the car is normal and are an easy fix. I hope that this car will ride for years to come!
