"Okay most of the time, but the window can be a pain in the backside"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Since I bought the car, the window on the driver's side door has come off track about 5 times. It came off track again today and when I called the dealer about it the service area had left and they will get back to me. So far I have not had to pay to have it fixed, however they are not sure if they will cover it this time.

General comments?

I will NEVER buy another Metro and I will never buy another car from Novick Auto Mall.

I got my '97 Geo Metro from T&C in Sedalia Missouri.

The only problems I've had with my car is the service engine light keeps coming on, and by the time I take it to the shop the light goes out and the service guys couldn't find anything wrong.

About a month after I got the car the driver's side and passenger side windows when rolled down would fall forward and out of track.

I have had the same problem with my Metro too!! The window constantly goes off track. I am constantly taking it to a dealer to get fixed without being charged, and I wind up with the same problems. I hate that the window is like that, because it is generally a good car.

Apparently, this is a long-time bug Geo/Suzuki/Chevy or whoever have never fixed. I have a 91 Metro convertible and a 94 Metro hatchback and BOTH have a problem with the driver's side window popping off the track. A real pain. Otherwise, I love them both.

I've owned my Geo since August of 1999, and it has been a good car. Driving an average of 110 miles per day and with soaring gas prices, you really cannot beat the gas mileage.

The only problems I have experienced have to do with the driver's side window coming out of its track and also the heating/air conditioning fan switch has broken at least twice. The dealer did repair these problems at no cost to me.

Also never could use the outside air vent. Pulls fumes into the car.

I have had the same problem with my Geo Metro LSI sedan, except it was both the driver side and passenger side. And both inside door handles have broke, where we can't get out of the car without rolling down the windows to reach the outside door handles or have someone come around to open the door for us.

Jesus! My window has the same exact problem! Does anyone know what the deal is with that? Luckily for me I hit a deer with my 95 Metro Sedan and the deer smashed into the driver's side door so it had to be replaced. When I got it back I had a new door and a new window. It worked great. The only problem is, the more I use the window, I can tell it's getting tougher to roll up and down as time goes on.

I have a 97 metro and it has begun to die out on me after being ran about 20 minutes. None of the auto repair places have been able to figure it out.

Very frustrating.

I am an 18 year old with a 97 Geo Metro as my 3rd car, however the first of my very own. I've had this car for about 2 months now and the only problem I've had is exactly what everyone else has stated, my driver's side window is off the track also. When I go to wind it down, it gets caught and I have to assist it down. Otherwise I love my new little Geo!!

We just got our 2nd 1994 Geo Metro. The drivers' side window also jumps the track. I took the door apart and discovered a little nylon wheel that was cracked, split in two. Today I spent 12 man-hours trying to locate a replacement nylon roller, both locally and on-line, without success. I think I'm going to crank up the CAD program, measure the good remaining roller, and see about having someone fabricate a replacement. It looks like a lot of you could use a source of them.

I think if I get desperate enough to reverse engineer it and have some rollers made, I'll have the old one analyzed and find a tougher plastic to make new ones from, maybe a glass-filled urethane.

I too have had the same problem with my 1994 Geo metro. The side windows would tilt forward and the front would go down causing the window to bind up. I figured out a cheap way ($10 or less) to repair this annoying problem and it makes them work like new again. It takes about 1 hour per door the only tools you will need is a drill, hacksaw and the tools to get the door panel off. You can email me for more info at JOHNDEERETECH@JUNO.COM.

Hi Everyone!

I have three of these types of cars. I have a 1989 Suzuki Swift, a 1994 Geo Metro, and a 1997 Geo Metro. All three cars have a dodgy window track, and it's caused by the rubber gasket that runs in the steel channel that the window "glides" up and down in. This is a very common item, and one that is cheap and easy to fix. All you have to do is to replace the channel rubber, and there are a variety of aftermarket companies that offer a suitable product (i.e. J.C. Whitney, for example). The good point is that it will provide a quick, easy, and cheap fix. The bad point is that it will eventually wear out again. The problem stems from a "loose" plastic window regulator bushing that slides down a steel channel inside your door that you can have repaired at a slightly higher cost. Those with rudimentary mechanical skills can do this repair themselves, but don't try it unless you KNOW what you are doing! But, if you have A/C and heat, why do you want to roll down your window, anyway? My point is this: If you can control your environment inside the car, then it's not necessary to put additional strain on what we all know is the Geo's weak point. Personally, I find the Geo/Sprint to be a wonderfully reliable and smooth car, that costs nearly nothing to own and operate. The sewing machine smooth 3 cylinder, 1.0 liter is about as simple as it gets, and the 4 cylinder is not far behind, even at 1.3 liters. Either is a joy to do basic maintenance to, as well as major work. I would suggest that if you feel like it, you might buy a Haynes repair manual, and attempt to repair your own Geo/Suzuki/Chevy. The car is a cheap car with a badly designed window regulator. You can either fix it or live with it. Either way, you can't argue that the car is good value for money!

I just bought a used 1994 Geo Metro today, and it too has a drivers side window problem. The person who sold it to me made sure I knew about it, but it is strange to know that this is a common problem. I fixed this problem in other makes and models of vehicles before, and it usually just involves removing the door panel and putting the rollers back on the track, hopefully that will work. I will find out soon.
