Little or nothing - it's been very reliable.
Clutch had been replaced once, and the ventilation unit has broken, but nothing else worthy of note.
Idiot backed into me and broke the front grill, but that isn't the car's fault...
Good, reliable, cheap to run car, that still looks reasonably good today.
Handles better than our other 1997 Daihatsu, with better steering and a more solid feel (even though one wouldn't want to be in an accident in one...), though has less power than the same-engined Daihatsu.
These are good cars and I would recommend them to anyone in search of a cheap first car who doesn't mind the old-lady/shopping trolley image.
I have been in an accident in one. Because of it's size, you could never consider an Alto a safe car however I walked away from being hit side on at 60km/h. Not bad for such a tiny beast. My squeaky is sadly missed.
I've been in an accident with one too, at 40km/h into the back of a van with a bullbar I had my knees through the dash, literally. I am a tall guy, but ya don't expect that to happen specially at 40k's. Totalled the car, but we all got out okay with some shock. I'd recommend a larger car or a later model one with some safety features if you want to go over 60k's regularly and live to see the destination.
