"Lamentable Quality Control"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Noisy clutch bearing

Faulty Clutch (squeals when pulling away)

Low speed rattle from under bonnet.

General comments?

My local dealer knew all about the faulty clutch. "We have ten others just like it awaiting replacement". Clutch needs to be replaced, but dealer is unable to obtain the parts.

Low speed rattle is being blamed on faulty engine mountings!!!. These also need replacing.

I have the exact same clutch problem with my 75 but my dealer says it's probably my fault, blaming it on the fact that I have to reverse up hill for 20 feet to get out of my driveway. If they replace the clutch and deem the old one to be a subject of abuse they will charge me for the replacement even though the clutch is only a couple of weeks old. I don't trust them to make that decision and they say that they cannot just look at it, if they dismantle it they have to replace it.

Can you reply with your dealers name and location, they sound a lot more helpful than mine.

I have had a rover 75 for 12 month, I love the car, but today the clutch burnt out at 39,000 miles. Not only did the clutch go, but it took the fly wheel with it.

£495 for a replacement clutch plus £300 for a new fly wheel (rover dealer). From reading your e mails this seems to be a common problem with the 75 and if so surely rover should be made accountable and foot the bill to rectify the problem.

Rover 75 2.0 litre Tourer purchased new May 2003, clutch failed on 18/11/04 after 9000 miles, attributed to worn clutch plate and driver error (dealer later apologised for comment). Dealer explained asbestos withdrawn from clutch facing by manufacturer for Health & Safety reasons.

Bill to replace over £600. Any suggestions on course of action?
