2003 Jeep Liberty Sport from North America - Comments

"Jeep Liberty is a piece of junk"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Power steering line popped off a few weeks after purchase. Easy to fix, no major problems until 1 1/2 years later.

The clutch and fly wheel totally fell apart (I've never towed with this vehicle nor do I "ride" the clutch).

Don't try to put the back seat backs down, it'll break your seatbelts, and Chrysler charges you $100 deductable to fix it.

After taking it in for repair, they kept finding more and more wrong with it, not much was covered under my extended warranty. Total repair bill (out of my pocket) - $1800. Pretty pricy car repair bill for a 1 1/2 year old car with an extended warranty.

General comments?

Very unhappy with both the dealer and Chrysler. When I talked to the dealer, they told me to talk to Chrysler. When I talked to Chrysler, they told me to talk to the dealer. There is a page long list of things that went wrong with the car, and nobody will take responsiblity for selling me a hunk of junk - the Jeep Liberty.

Wow! You used to own a "Jeep Neon"! What a coincidence, my next door neighbor just bought a Dodge Cherokee!

Seriously though, it sounds like you abused the vehicle and expect the dealer or manufacturer to pay for the repairs.

Jeep Libertys are wonderful vehicles and are extremely reliable. Probably the most reliable Jeep ever made.

I'd take one over a Pathfinder (which I've also owned) or

4 Runner anytime.

LOL!!! That's nothing! My Neighbor owns a Jeep Ram 3500 Cummins Turbo Diesel!!!

Seriously dude, you bashed the hell out of your Liberty and it broke. Like mentioned in the first comment, if you're too lazy to move the seatbelt just a couple of inches when putting down the back seats, don't even bother.

I have an 03 Liberty with 18,000 hard earned miles that I bought brand new. I have a led right foot and red line this thing constantly, and wheel it off road, and it keeps coming back for more!

This is hard for me to write since I am a huge Jeep fan. However, my beloved 03' Liberty is dieing a very slow death. She only has 21k miles on her and already I have had to replace a driveline (2 weeks into ownership). Now she's back in the shop for transmission problems. According to the dealer, the sensor failed which caused the transmission to fail. On the same day, the power windows and power mirrors failed to operate. Also, something inside the rear passenger door rattles when the door is shut. This letter is not intended to slam the Liberty, because after all this I still love it, it is intended to get some of your opinions. Has anyone had these kinds of problems or heard of them happening? My last Cherokee had over 200k miles on her without fail, so these problems are not due to owner abuse. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

As for the guy in the last comment. Sell the liberty and get a cherokee with low miles.

This is not normal. brought it back twice alreay, unable to find problem. they say it is something in the computer sensors...

Lucky you!

There are problems with the KJ Cherokee/Liberty and it would not be that bad if Jeep dealers and Daimler Chrysler took their customer more serious.

There are problems with the brakes/rear axles/ECU valves/Ball Joints/e-brakes/3.7 engine/transmission/front transfere case/underside rust etc.

A little research on the internet will help you locate your problem.

Some people will tell you it is 'a Jeep thing' but that is not very helpful especially as you are the one who is paying for it all.

Jeep Ram 3500 Cummins turbo? Jeep Neon? Dodge Cherokee?

Do people not get the fact that Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and Mopar are all owned and operated by Daimler Chrysler? Daimler Chrysler has a long standing reputation of bad transmissions... that's it.

If you had problems with anything else, you without a doubt beat on it. Unless of course, it is a common failure (such as power window failures, or fluid leaks). Common failures are to be expected with all vehicles.

Have had this vehicle for six weeks (second owner), got it at 30,000 miles, and then overdrive starting a major clunk on downshift dropping to 20 miles p/h. Vehicle would not start up one day for no reason, so sat for 10 minutes then it just started. I left a hospital yesterday mid September 07' going a whole 5 miles per hour on wet pavement, and it fishtailed; I only touched the gas to go forward. Steering seems very touchy on a straight stretch, I'm sure this jeep is gonna roll, even at a low speed in town, just feels hoppy, I am not satisfied with the handling. I feel unsafe, so I now have it for sale. I am disappointed, I guess the looks, bells and whistles sold me. I'm still trying to talk myself out of it, but I think it's a lemon. I owned a 1995 Blazer with 140,000 miles, tranny still tight and all, just had it so long and wanted something different. I'm sticking with Chev or import. Don't buy something if it looks GOOD! OH, I am not against Dodge, could bought first generation

for that kinda money.
