Well nothing to tell you the truth not a thing!!!
I got the car for next to nothing really a few hundred pound, but she was in a bit of a state I got her as a project, but even tho she had been stood for nearly 3 years on someone's drive who did not no how to look after her she started 1st time (with a new battery) the parts that need to be changed are bonnet (looks like a fat kid jumped on it) wing, both mirrors, hose's,and the passenger rear drivers side door, the interior was a bit of a mess (the plastic) but all the leather seats where nearly as new, anyway as soon as I have sorted these problems out and any other things I find wrong with it I am going to, but a descent sound system in it and put sum really wide alloys on her, nice.
I just picked up a 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo intercooler estate. It had stood for 4 months and it started first pull. My old 240GL estate ha now come to the end of it's MOT'able life and I bought the 760 for the princely sum of £180 with 98K miles on the clock, 8 months MOT and a months tax. It needs a few bits, tailgate struts, a door handle on a back door, front sidelight and the windscreen washers don't work (yet) and I have to have a radio.
The car was in decent nick, but filthy. Washed up well and the interior looked like the sorting room of a nut factory. I haven't seen so many shells in one place.
Mechanically, it goes like a rocket. I knew that the carburetted 240 estate was sluggish, but this one goes like a bomb with the injection and turbo. And sorry guys, but I will never go back to a manual gearbox. Most of the electrics work, and a liberal dose of switch cleaner did the trick. The air/con doesn't cut in, but the circuits are alive so it may just need a recharge. Climate control is great. The leather needs a really good clean with saddle soap and part of the headlining is sagging, but hey, who cares for £180??? Even the sun roof works well.
The front brakes jammed on on the first day, but a liberal dose of plus gas and a rubber mallet cured them.
The car is a workhorse for me as I am a decorator, but good enough to take the family out. A bit of TLC and a lot of elbow grease and I reckon that I have got myself a bargain...
Cost of spares... BRILLIANT. Either Euro Car Parts or the local scrap yard. hey! Who's fussy if the goods are OK... Recommend one of these cars to anyone. However, the 240 is definitely a stronger tank...
